Title: IN 157 question
Post by: sd72667 on December 10, 2012, 04:44:46 PM
Do heavy trucks use IN 157 between Worthington and Bloomfield? Going north on US 231 through Bloomfield you have to drive west and then up IN 57/US 231. I've never driven a car on IN 157 across the White river. IN 157 looks like a short cut on the map. Could save 10 minutes.

I wouldn't advise taking that route. It's very hilly and curvy in spots. I haven't driven it much and the first time I did was because I too thought it was shorter and save some time; it did not. It actually has a couple 90 degree turns If my memory serves me correctly.

I drove it once, and at the 90 degree turn to get to worthington is a bridge, making a difficult turn for trucks even worse. I also seem to recall a load limit for that structure.

Having driven 157 a number of times over the years because I have relatives in that part of Greene County, I can tell you 157 is my least favorite path if I'm not going to visit them.  If I'm just passing through, 231/54 west to 231/57 north is preferable.  It's been years since I timed the difference, but if anything, 157 takes maybe 10 minutes longer ... and that's if you don't get stuck behind a truck.
