I've noticed some of TxDOT's florescent yellow signs starting to fade, including one that I installed while working on their sign crew from 2005-2007. That would mean that the sign didn't last 10 years like it's supposed to.
Same thing is happening in South Carolina - ran across such signs in Windsor and Blackville recently.
I think the feds need to go back to standard orange-yellow for School Warning signs - and disallow FYG for any kind of sign.
These signs were installed by me sometime between 2005 and 2007. They are florescent, and were supposed to last at least 10-12 years.
They have been showing signs of fading for about 3 years now. The curve sign is 3M sheeting, and is faded way more than the bottom sign, which is Avery-Dennison sheeting. The contractor has moved these signs to a temporary square post probably due them being hit ; and construction in the area.
