Greetings from lovely Bakersfield, CA. I'm T.J. I've been coming to AARoads for years now but never thought to check out the Forum. I am a travel-by-car nut and a huge fan of old highways and their histories, particularly those here in the West. My love of highways goes back to my childhood, sitting in the backseat of a '66 Buick Riviera traveling between California and Texas twice a year, watching from the window with wonder at the new freeways being built. I'm just hoping to have a good time here, learning more about the great American highways I love driving on. Thanks!
Too bad you don't still have that '66 Riv. Was it a Gran Sport?
Welcome! Glad to have you on board.
neato 399 sign! I'm assuming you took a photo from Hallelujah Junction (395/70) and photoshopped it?
welcome!

I don't remember. It was my parents car and I was but a wee lad riding in the back. They sold it in 1975 and got a T-Bird.

Ha! Figured it would be the folks here to know. I drove up to Susanville for a job interview a couple of years ago and snapped a ton of pics along the way. That was one of them and yes, I coped the '9' in 395 and pasted it over the '5' and then solarized it to give it a vintage look.
I live in Kern County and even though 399 died five years before I was born, I feel a bit of an affinity for it. I used to live off Taft Hwy (old 399, current 119) in the mid 70s. Rode in the back of the family car on Taft Hwy for shopping trips to Bakersfield many times.

Greetings!
I have been on the forum for two weeks now, and just learned today about the rest of the aaroads website!

Greetings from lovely Bakersfield, CA. ... (snip) ... watching from the window with wonder at the new freeways being built.
Keep your eyes open for freeway construction in your own backyard. You can track the progress of several freeway construction projects in and around Bakersfield at http://www.bakersfieldfreeways.us/.
