Google Maps has just updated their aerial imagery at Crown Point/Chimney Point, and it happens to fall smack dab in the middle of bridge replacement. So check it out while you still can, since the new bridge is now open: https://maps.google.com/maps?ll=44.032444,-73.417983&spn=0.014717,0.036478&sll=44.558919,-72.565384&sspn=0.058344,0.145912&t=k&z=15
I passed through Crown Point and Chimney Point yesterday. The ferry approaches are still being worked on being reverted back toward a more natural state, especially with the bridge having been reopened for over a year now.
Were/are those ferries intended to be temporary?
The ferry at Crown Point was established as the original bridge at that location was suddenly closed. It ran 24/7 and I believe was free while the new bridge was under construction. The ferries were only temporary, as the service ended when the new bridge opened.
