Found this on Google Maps. I've seen these "FLORIDA SCENIC HIGHWAY" signs used as toppers on state route markers (pictured on Flikr), but it seems quite odd that they would be used on a county road. The signs also indicate that there is a SCENIC HIGHWAY SPUR on a city street; to the north of this intersection,Tubb St and Oakland Av in Oakland. Also, if you turn aound at his location on steeet view, you will see a CR 438 reasurrance sign. Doesn't make sense 'cause the assembly shows CR 438 going E-W here. it would appear that some of the signage is incorrect here.

Westbound approaching the inersection, there's a route maker assembly with a very old arrow plaque.
Yep, there are a number of state scenic highways on county roads. http://www.floridascenichighways.com/scenic-highway-30a/
As for CR 438, signage has been lost over the years to attrition, leaving only the old ones in Oakland, but it used to be signed from Winter Garden west to the county line, with a spur to SR 50 on Tubb. They both used to be state roads - originally SR 50 went through Oakland, but the old route became SR 438 ca. 1950 when the new SR 50 was built, and Tubb was taken over in 1953 as a spur of SR 438. Tubb was given to the county (1979) before the east-west piece (1981), and the arrows westbound reflect the former status of county road left and state road straight.
CR 507 (Fellsmere to Palm Bay) is partially designed as a Florida Scenic Highway, and so is CR 707 (St. Lucie to Stuart), although it is signed as SR 707 in a few places.

Thanks, NE2. Great information. Interesting that signs still stand for routes that were decomissioned in 79&81.
Florida is so interesting from a roadgeek perspective because so much has changed, and there are so many former state routes.
On an unrelated note, Concerning former SR 24, Former SR S-439(I assume), and CR 439 in the Windermere/Gotha/Ocoee area: My father lived off this road, and I am interested in a few things about it's history. Did this route every head NE on Parkridge-Gotha Rd, to or through Gotha? Do you know when it changed designations?

Not quite - the state roads were given to the county then. Orange County has just not maintained its county road signage well.

This was never pre-1945 SR 24 - that went south from Winter Garden on CR 535.
About 1920, Orange County paved a branch off (Old) Winter Garden Road to Windermere, following Hempel, Park Ridge Gotha, and Maguire. Maguire north of Park Ridge Gotha shows up as unpaved on 1950s maps; FDOT took it over and presumably paved it in 1960.

Thanks. I just bought a 1938 Standard Oil Map of Florida, at it was unclear about SR 24.
