I have 2 cast iron highway signs, how do I tell if there real or repro? They've been painted, so they look new. There both Iowa highways. One is round "Iowa 74" and the other is shield "Iowa US 61". Any help would be appreciated.

iron ones are generally real. a bunch of reproductions were made around 1985 with the old molds, but they were cast out of some zinc alloy, and weigh about 2/3 as much.
got a photo?
Yeah, how do you post a pic from your computer?

You can upload a photograph to a site like Photobucket or Flickr and use the IMG link to post it here.
Or just post a link to the images. Step #1 is to find a place to upload them (:
Well, if the originals are steel, and the reproductions are Zinc, than perhaps you can try using a magnet
(needless to say, the magnet will attach to a steel sign)
It also works to tell if a classic car has had dents filled in with Bondo ;)
