A friend and I were driving around going from Omaha to his old hometown of Fremont tonight. Anyway, we had to exit at the east Valley, NE exit to get gas and we just took old US 275 (Reichmuth Road) to get to Fremont from Valley. Anyway, there is a business called 275 Storage in Valley on old US 275. Later, we get to Fremont and go on old US 30, which has signage saying it is Business 30 and pass the 30 Bowl.
Anyway, I thought about it and I also remember driving past two other businesses which are named for highways which no longer pass by the business. On US 59 in Oregon, Missouri, there is the 275 Grill, named presumably for US 275, which US 59 eventually took over and in Benson, Arizona, on business loop 10 on the east side of Benson, is (or was the day I went past it in 2009) Cafe 86, named for AZ 86, which only goes west from Tucson nowadays.
Just curious how many other businesses are like this (and whether the 30 Bowl mentioned above counts as such). And do you actually use the services of such businesses?
I'm sure US 66 has countless businesses like this, so try to keep it to other highways.
About 10 years ago in western Greensboro (near the airport) there was a "421 Self Storage" on Market Street, which was no longer US 421.
141 Speedway in Francis Creek, WI. US 141 hadn't been that far south since 1980.
The Silver Bridge colapse deal led to the renaming of old WV 17 to US 35 in 1970. The "17 Motel" remained open and called that until it went under a couple of years ago.
Not actually a business, but Charleston's Capitol Street is where the old Capitol was. The one that burned down in 1921.
There's a Highway 86 self storage on the east side of Willcox along I-10 Business. Highway 86 is the highway that used to serve that Benson->Lordsburg NM corrdior.
On US 12 in Warren MI, there is the 112 Bar. Presumably, it was named when Michigan Avenue was US 112. The original US 12 was turned into I 94 and US 112 became part of US 12.
There's a Route 66 Harley Davidson in Tulsa. Problem that it isn't on old 66 and has never been on 66. It's just off US 64/OK 51 (The BA.)

There's a Deli 66 and Super 66 Liquors on CT 322 in Cheshire and Southington, CT respectively. CT 322 was CT 66 until I-691 was completed back in 1988 and CT 66 was truncated to I-91 in Meriden.
California: Along Saratoga-Sunnyvale Road, there was a "Hi-Way 9" auto repair well into the 1980s, when the route number had changed to 85 in the 1964 re-numbering (9 had been re-directed to Los Gatos). Then, 85 was moved onto the freeway in 1994, but I'm pretty sure the business was gone by then.
Not quite the same, but in Long Beach SoCal Edison has the "State Street Substation" even though it was re-named as part of Pacific Coast Highway in the 1940s.
@ JP THE ROADGEEK: The only Connecticut example I could find is the Route 72 Diner in East Berlin along CT Route 372. When the segment of the CT Route 9 expressway opened between the Berlin Turnpike (US 5/CT 15) and I-91 in Cromwell, the existing CT Route 72 by the diner was changed to the present CT Route 372. That had to be around 1989 or 1990.
Could've sworn I caught a glimpse of "122 something..." on PA 61 somewhere north of Reading. Once, that was US 122.
I think there's a shop called "9C Cigarettes" in the Kahnawà :ke Indian Reserve, near Montreal.
The highway was renumbered to 132 in the '70s.
Here is something different: A service area on Spanish A-23 is named Kilómetro 3, but nowadays is nowhere near a kmpost 3. However, it was correct back when the road was numbered C-136. In late 80s N-330 was realigned there, placing it at kmpost 574 for a couple decades. Meanwhile, in early noughties N-330 was upgraded to an expressway, and retained its number a couple years before it was renumbered to A-23. Finally, in 2008 a kmpost adjustement put the service area at its current kmpost 363.
there is a US-50 Motel in Tracy, CA. I do not know if it is active, or if just the sign remains.

Not quite the same, but the frontier checkpoint south of Nuevo Laredo, Tamaulipas, on highway 85 is known as Kilómetro 26. Its location on the highway is approximately km-193. It is, however, 26 kilometers south of the border, hence its name.
In near-northwest Columbus (almost Grandview Heights or Upper Arlington) there's a business called Fifth Avenue Florists. It's at the intersection of Kenny Road and Kinnear Road. (Sidebar: a blind friend of mine once thought those were slightly different pronunciations of the name of one road.) Fifth Avenue (sidebar: used to be OH 31, and then maybe briefly US 33) is about a half mile south of there. My guess is, at some point in the past, the business moved.
This might be the most ADD post, not counting those occasional crazy run-on Fictional Highways posts from authors who tend to get banned...

Route 8 through Cuyahoga Falls, OH has at least 2 business that include the Route 8 mention or shield along the original Route 8 alignment (Akron-Cleveland Road/State Road), despite being nearly 30+ years since Route 8 was actually there.

Had MA been 100% successful in completely truncating MA 128 to I-95 in Peabody, the various 128 auto dealerships in Wakefield and the Route 128 Amtrak/MBTA Commuter Rail station in Westwood along would certainly fall in the thread category.

I know of a few "circle" businesses that are no longer adjacent to traffic circles:
1. Lodi Circle Apartments: http://goo.gl/maps/Wyh09 - historic aerial: http://goo.gl/kHqyb
2. Circle 3 Farms: http://goo.gl/kULLH - historic aerial: http://goo.gl/kULLH
3. Circle Motor Lodge: http://goo.gl/maps/huF3m - historic aerial: http://goo.gl/ezDQG
I'm sure there's even more examples in NJ.
There was a Ford Dealer in North Brunswick, NJ that was called Circle Ford. It was located at the former intersection of US 1 and US 130 ( now interchange) that was once a traffic circle many decades ago. I do not know if it is still there or not as I do not live in New Jersey now, though back in the 80's the name still carried on long after the circle perished.
What about the reverse? Highways named for businesses that don't exist anymore? Here in Tysons Corner, VA, we have a Westin hotel with a "Ramada Drive" address. Interestingly, before it was a Westin, it was a Doubletree, so its named after what was there two businesses ago!
Then in Orlando we have a La Quinta Drive that was named for the former La Quinta Hotel that now became a Hampton Inn on its front.
Back on topic, Greeneway Ford in Orlando, FL is named after the freeway Central Florida Greeneway (aka FL 417) that it is located next to.
While driving through Plattsmouth, NE this weekend, came across another one for 73-75 Storage, US 73 having long ceased passing through Plattsmouth.
I've mentioned this elsewhere, but for a while there was an IKEA Way in Somerville, Mass., where an IKEA never existed. IKEA pulled out of the development after the signs went up, and today they exist in various edited states around the area.
In Hopewell there is a small grocery store called Randolph Market, which used to be located on Randolph Rd (VA 10). Now it is actually at the intersection where VA 36 turns onto N 6th Ave from Broadway, but it is still in the same general vicinity (the first traffic light for VA 36 WB coming from VA 10).

Similarly, just east of Chapel Hill, Europa Drive shared its name with the Omni Europa Hotel. I believe it's now a Sheraton. You probably recall where I mean–on the north side of US-15/501, it's Erwin Road.
Or, there are businesses named for the street they were on, moved, and continue to use the name. An example is Court Street Ford in the Kankakee, Illinois area. They started on Court Street (IL-17) in Kankakee, and moved to a location in Bourbonnais off William Latham Drive, but maintained the name "Court Street Ford".
Well For odd Reasons CA-37 Parkway in Vallejo, CA was still called Marine World Parkway even though Marine World is now Six Flags Discovery Kingdom. Yet I-80 East in Vallejo still Kept the Marine World Exit and still exists today to approach CA-37 Parkway. But as of 2014 Marine World Parkway aka CA-37 Parkway is now known as "Officer James Capoot Highway".

In Goldsby, OK, there was once a bank. A casino was built next to it, and an access road to it was built, but since it ran past the bank first, it was called W. Bank Drive. Later, the casino bought the lot that the bank was on and demolished the building (it's now a parking lot). The road was renamed to "Bankers Drive", but it still obviously references the bank that used to be there. (After crossing into Newcastle, the road becomes Sonic Drive. Guess what fast food joint it leads to!)
(It was pretty ballsy naming something after the profession of 'banker' during the time period where Occupy Wall Street was getting headlines!)
Hi Cafe Road near Staunton, IL , named for the former Hi Motel & CAfe along old Route 66
There's a 23-something-or-other near the intersection of US 460/KY 80 and KY 122 in Pike County, near Shelbiana. It's so named because US 23 used to run concurrently with 460/80 to Shelbiana and then followed what is now KY 122.

The Village of Holiday City, Ohio, was named in the late 1990s for the Holiday Inn next to the Ohio Turnpike. Since the village was incorporated, the hotel switched brands to Ramada. There is a Holiday Inn Express just down the road, but that's more recent.
Tandy Drive/Tandy Way in Sacramento (http://markholtz.info/s5) was so named because of the Incredible Universe that was located there until Fry's snatched up the store in 1996.
Evansville, Ind. had a furniture store on South Kentucky Avenue (the old route of U.S. 41) known as South 41 Furniture ... I still remember retired local TV sportscaster Joe Celania doing their commercials -- "Come see, you save!" The store was open into the early '90s, as I recall, surviving Kentucky Avenue's designation as 41 by about 20 years or so.
And then in Lebanon, Ind., there was Club 52 on Indianapolis Avenue, a bar and grill with a small bowling alley in its basement. U.S. 52, along with I-65, now loops around Lebanon's south and west sides.
There is (or at least was in recent years) an Old 74 Guns Shop on OH 125 in Amelia, OH that is not even close to Old Ohio SR 74, which today is OH 32. There is still a section of Old 74 that is separate from current 32.
Not really a business, but Logan, WV has "College Ave." and "University St." which relate to a Marshall branch that became a stand alone community college in 1970 and moved from the location in 1987.
Charleston's bus system has a route that is still listed as ending, both on the schedules and on the big sign on the bus itself, as ending at "Rt 60 and Rt 35". Of course, 35 has not intersected US 60 since 1999 when the new four lane opened and the old road was renumbered WV 817.
Slightly off topic, but Charleston has a Ford dealer named "Turnpike Ford" which is, indeed just off the WV Turnpike. However the company has since expanded to another Ford dealership in downtown Huntington and a Chevy one in Nitro, and used to own a VW one in Gallipolis, OH, all named "Turnpike" and none near any turnpikes.
Charleston also has a hotel, variously a Holiday Inn, Ramada, and now a Sheraton, genericly called the "Charleston House". It had a long time tenant in the lobby, a barber shop. They recently got kicked out and reopened elsewhere as the "Charleston House Barber Shop". Obviously no longer located in it.
While were on the subject of expansions, how about timeshare resort named Westgate Resorts. It was named Westgate because the first resort was located in Kissimmee, Florida in the Main Gate West resort area of Kissimmee. The area was named because back when Disney was one theme park the US 192 & World Drive interchange was called "The Main Gate." All parts of US 192 west of World Drive was called "Main Gate West" and all parts east of World Drive was known as "Main Gate East."
Anyway resort owner David Siegel named his first property on US 192 and Old Lake Wilson Road The Westgate Resort which later became the name of his corporation when he expanded. His second resort the defunct Sonesta Resort near Sea World he then called Westgate Lakes where this resort is not west of the Gate of Disney nor is the Main Gate of Disney the main entrance to anything since the expansion of the WDW resort.
Plus the name Westgate Resorts is now a time share chain nationwide with resorts even in places like Las Vegas.
South 27th Street in Milwaukee County, Wisconsin has had a few businesses named for their former US 41 designation (currently Wis 241). A few 41-related names still exist, such as the Modern 41 Motel, one of many dumpy old motels along the strip. On a related note, there are a few decorative "Historic 41" decorative signs going up along the strip.
Another interesting artifact involves the Minnesota Twins baseball team. They have streets named after former players near former stadiums. Therefore, Killebrew Drive now goes past former Met Stadium at what is now Mall of America, and Kirby Puckett Place is right in front of what's left of the old Metrodome. Currently, there are no player-named streets near their current digs, Target Field.

They also have Carew Dr. on the SW side of the Metrodome, which I find interesting, since Rod Carew didn't play a home game in the Metrodome.
EDIT ON 5-4: Omaha also has a somewhat similar situation in that Johnny Rosenblatt Stadium has been demolished, but the road on the north side of the former stadium site is still Bob Gibson Dr., Bob Gibson being Omaha's greatest baseball player.

In Pottstown, PA, there is an Armand Hammer Blvd. (which I became aware of from its interchange with US 422 on which I used to frequently travel). It is named for a former president of Occidental Petroleum which at one time was located at the end of the road (since sold and operating as an industrial park). And as I just found, Arm & Hammer did not come from his name (predated him by a number of years), although he did own stock in that company (Church & Dwight).

In Marquette, Michigan, the only campus that abuts College Avenue is the one for Marquette General Hospital (now "UP Health System—Marquette"). Northern Michigan University's campus no longer extends that far south, and the hospital recently announced plans to build a totally new facility near the Marquette Bypass what will require the construction of a roundabout and the closure of the Grove Street stoplight on that expressway.
Continuing the reverse situation, the I-83 North Exit 40A (Pennsylvania) ramp turns into Sheraton Drive, which goes to a hotel that presumably was a Sheraton at some point but I remember it being a Holiday Inn and now it is a Clarion Hotel.
It closed sometime in the last ten years, but in Daly City, a "Club 101" existed on Mission Street a block north of East Market Street. Mission was US 101 from the 1930s to 1964, but from that point on has been Route 82.

There's a "Motel 90" on LA 182 in Raceland, Louisiana. US 90 disappeared from that alignment in 1978, but was also numbered LA 3198 until it received its present designation around 1999.

The 183 Motel in Euless, TX is along a previous alignment of TX 183, but 183 has LONG since been part of Airport Frwy., a few miles to the north. The road in front of the motel has since been renumbered TX 10.
I don't know of any other business around here that is named for a previously numbered road.
I'm pretty sure there's a business with the number "42" in it along TN 111 between Cookeville and US 127 at the Kentucky state line. That route used to be numbered TN 42, and for awhile was co-signed 42 and 111, before 42 was dumped in favor of 111 alone. There were some mile markers that still referenced TN 42 the last time I was on that road a few years ago.
41 Lumber in Michigan's UP is named for US-41. The first location named "41 Lumber" is on US-41 in Marquette, although the company had prior locations under other names. The Escanaba and Houghton locations are on US-41, and the Larium location is just a few blocks off the highway. But they also have locations in Iron Mountain and Munising not on the highway.
Not a case of the road moving away from the business, but rather the business expanding to areas where the road doesn't go.

As for businesses named for extinct roads, perhaps those named for historical highways, like the Lincoln, or Dixie Bee - a lot of businesses keep those names even though the official designations are long gone.

The Ellisburg Circle Shopping Center in Cherry Hill is named after the traffic circle that was demolished in 1992. Sometime after 2012 the word "circle" was dropped on the big sign, but the property owner (http://www.federalrealty.com/properties/ellisburg/) and various tenants (https://www.wellsfargo.com/locator/bank/?il=EN&slindex=2) still use the version with "circle" in it sporadically.

Reno, NV has two businesses on E 4th St east of downtown: "Abby's Hwy 40 Bar" and "Hi-Way 40 Motel". These are both located along former US 40, which was decommissioned in Nevada by 1976. (And both establishments use a colored US highway shield design in their signage.)
Just south of Ithaca, MI is a Halloween haunted barn business called "Terror On 27". The highway it's on used to be US-27, but it's been decommissioned in Michigan. It's now US-127, but the haunted barn is still called Terror On 27.
Cincinnati (Springdale) has a Sheraton Lane. It used to go to a Sheraton Hotel, but the hotel changed hands a few times, then closed, and has since been demolished. But Sheraton Lane is still hanging on.
6 & 40 Motel in Idaho Springs, CO. Those two US routes are on I-70 now and I think CDOT official policy is that they do not exist along the I-70 multiplex.

Along that same idea, I believe there are some "6 & 24" businesses between Minturn and Grand Jct along I-70. US 6 still exists and might leave I-70 in some of these areas, but 24 has been truncated out of this area.
I was just thinking about how in the KC suburb of Shawnee, KS, there is a shopping center at the corner of Shawnee Mission Parkway and Quivira Road called 10 Quivira Plaza (GSV link: https://www.google.com/maps/@39.0148911,-94.7240465,3a,37.5y,348.14h,97.93t/data=!3m6!1e1!3m4!1s6T9cFbNyoGvxnJ79IZEf8Q!2e0!7i16384!8i8192).
The "10" in the name refers to the fact that at one time, K-10 used to run along SMP until the current freeway was built; according to the highway's Wikipedia page, the current alignment was completed in 1984. Anyway, what other businesses do you know of whose names derive from the highway they were on when they were built, but have since become outdated due to the highway itself later being diverted to a new alignment or changing to a different number? I'm sure there are several examples throughout the country.

I want to say there was a more recent one, but I'm having trouble finding it.

I'm pretty sure there's been one since I came back this year, because I remember posting in it.

Shall we do a merge in order to revive that thread?
I created a similar discussion in 2013 https://www.aaroads.com/forum/index.php?topic=8907.0
Former drive-in theater in Yakima, Washington that still has a US-410 logo in neon in the sign. Since decertified to state route 410, and ends several miles out of town. Also has "INDOOR" superimposed over "DRIVE-IN," even though the later-added indoor auditorium would be more usefully painted on the sign when it could be seen in the daytime. Picture taken about 1999. The location today. (https://goo.gl/maps/5kTLrHQgP9iNiJp98)

Dejavu. I thought we had this before. I guess not I imagined it, as if we did NE2 would post here cursing the thread out.
Anyway, anything called Route 66 on the old historic US 66 alignment.
East 74 Restaurant here in the Charlotte area is on US 74's old alignment.

Viking Drive in Eden Prairie, MN used to run in front of the Minnesota Vikings' team headquarters and facilities, but the team opened a new facility in Eagan a couple years ago.
Isn't that the opposite of this thread? It's a road whose name refers to a business that used to be on it–not a business whose name refers to a road it's not longer on.
