I just want to find out how you guys chose your usernames. I'll start:
ComputerGuy: I like computers and I am a male.
"Synthetic Dreams" is the name of a song I like. "Coredesat" and "Chikai" are also parts of names of songs that I like, hence why I use those names. :P
voyager = Star Trek Voyager.

voyager = Star Trek Voyager.
Though some will not agree with me, I actually liked ST: Voyager, especially after introducing Seven of Nine.....
My username derives from French.
un in French means one, and well 1 is one..
So one one, or 11 or un un.
-un1
Post-Halloween we chop up our pumpkins with a broadsword. It's rather entertaining. The name comes from a picture I took of myself chopping up one, that was my first default pic on myspace.
I invented the Internet and I have rhythm.

Al Gore + rythms = algoreryhtms :sombrero:
Well, maybe you should just be ObviousGuy. :-P
shadowduck- darkwing duck cartoon from the 80s.
Wikigav
Wiki as in wikipedia becomes of my stream of useless facts and my last name, gavin.
Scott is my real name. The first time I was registering an account on a forum (this was when I was 13 I think?) I needed a string of numbers to stick to it so I grabbed a box of Ziploc bags and looked at the UPC code and the first four digits were "5114". It was easy to remember, so it stuck, and the rest is history.
Of all the places to get a random string of numbers... a Ziploc UPC code? :-P
DAL is the 3-letter code of Delta Air Lines, my favorite airline, and 764 is the code for the Boeing 767-400ER, one of the many models in their fleet.
Mine comes from living along or near US 71 much of my life. :spin:
rawr apples used to be 'omfg apples' at Simtrop, then I was told to change it sadly. I didnt really think too much into it. on both usernames.
in ancient nordic and heathen mythology- the flat world was held up on each corner by an elf. There were four of them : nordri, sudri, westri, and austrini. It is where the names of the English cardinal directions (north, south, west, and east respectively) come from. Austrini was the elf of the "east" and symbolized rebirth, fire, and honesty.
I chose mine ten years ago for Yahoo. I was born in a city (New Orleans), am male and was born in 1986.
I have another one that I use sometimes: jct_us101. I might use it here. Basically it means Junction US 101. US 101 is my favorite highway, so that's the reason for that.
weatherdude...
weather = I was born obsessing over weather
dude = I'm a guy
Self explanatory, really.
"Master" is a tip to Star Wars, while son is the last part of my last name (or 1st initial and first two letters of last name - however you want to look at it :cheers:
I first used my name to setup my ebay account in 1998 and wanted something unique that was easy to remember. My name is jim and I like freeways, it just soft of fit.
my name is my first initials and my last name.
i.c.
Mine is a short form of my Usenet handle, Darkangel de la Louisiane, or very loosely translated, Louisiana's Darkangel. As for why Darkangel, it's the name of a VNV Nation song. It also reflects my personality.
Well i changed my name drastiaclly from other sites you may know me from, i am simsamerica from sc4dev, simtrop and simpeg along with some other places and there simsamerica means well not as in Sims the video game but simulations and america is where i live and was born in. here my name comes from that I play guitar, I have played Guitar Hero the game only like 2-3 times but I do play Rockband.
rmsandw....short for my site "Roads of the Mid-South & West"
I think mine is really self-explanatory...
My name is Doug and I'm a fan of the Mighty Mighty Bosstones. I came up with this username around 1998, when the Bosstones were at the height of their popularity. I figured it would be a good name for myself and others to identify me. For a few years before then, I used the name "Icemutiny" as my Internet moniker.
My first name is Bryant. The numbers are just random. :-D :-D
Be well,
Bryant
My first name is Chris.
Advantage if you register on a forum quick, you don't need a nick like Chris12345111one...
I just used my first name, Lyle. I was considering using "Gizmo," the name of a cat that I used to have, but I decided to use my real name.
aswnl:
asw=AutoSnelWegen; nl=.nl
So just the abbreviation of my sitename.
tankerdave:
Tanker is a nod to my job in the military (MOS 19K M1A1 Armor Crewman)
Dave is, well, my first name. First created the name for a new email address about 3 years ago. Half the guys in my unit called me tankerdave as a joke when they found out my email, lol. Some still do.
Emerson, Lake and Palmer is one of my favorite bands, and Tarkus is the name of their second album, released in 1971 (before my time :spin:), as well as the 20-minute long title-track and the armadillo that adorns the cover, as depicted in my avatar.
It's been my username on most sites since about 2006 or so, though when it's taken, I usually go for Aquatarkus.
-Alex (Tarkus)
The URL of my website.
Ctsignguy...a guy who is very interested in Connecticut signs (and collects them too!....told my SO i was going to stop once i had 'a hundred thousand of each and every kind of sign (that Connecticut put up!)'
Mine started off as a Livejournal handle for my hobby journal that morphed into my eBay handle (to prevent confusion when bidding on signs....Jake, Mike, and myself have a small cooperative where we scour for signs for each other and this system has worked well for a couple of years)

Aw, I love ELP too. They're one of my favorites (along with their fellow prog rock contemporary Yes)
Anyway, my name is kind of non-descript as well. I was 14 I think, and that was when I became obsessed with roads. I had a stupid IM name at the time (forgot what it was) so I made a new one. It reflected me liking highways, roads, and signs. I tacked on the 394 because it's my favorite Twin Cities highway.
Mine is pretty self explanatory. I really liked Dr. Zoidberg on Futurama, and I felt "Bender Bending Rodriguez" was too long a name.
Corco is an abbreviation of my last name that I acquired in 1999 when AOL suggested I use the screen name Corco16446. I've dropped the 16446 but have become well known on the interwebs as Corco. I haven't used AOL in 7 years.
This screen name is entirely thanks to someone mispelling my last name in the school office a few years ago. And since then, I've used it pretty extensively online in games and on websites.
yanksfan because I am a fan of the New York Yankees, 6129 is the first for numbers of my birth date, June 12, 199x
Mine is the name of a type of speed camera.
I needed an email address when my family first got internet (late 1997), and so I threw a tiddly wink onto a map set from the top of a stairwell and it landed on I-75, Exit 322 in Michigan.
Voila.
Southern Illinois= Where I live; SKYWARN= NWS spotter organization
Of course, my website is Alps' Roads. The ROADS part (all caps) comes from a time when many of us would shout "ROADS!" "SIGNS!" etc. The Alps refers to my last name, which became my nickname. When I first decided that my website should have a name to it, way back when I was a student, I was tossing around ideas and starting thinking, where do I know anything with an Alp in it. And then it struck me.
My username comes from me living in New York, but my interest in Philly teams. I plan on moving to Philly sometime.
Wouldn't it be NY then?
The NJ Turnpike is the easiest way to get from New York to Philly.
Technically, my username is KatyFreeway, which comes from the name given to Interstate 10 on the west side of Houston. For now, I have my display name as my real first name.
BigMatt
Well im 13 and almost 6-foot tall
and my name is Matthew
Greybear:
I used to work for Greyhound and I'm a rather large-stature man, roughly the size of a bear. Hence the name.
Well, I like traffic signals and I'm a guy. I'm not very inventive with that kinda stuff. Plus, it makes it easy for me to remember my user name on here.
NJ- because I'm from NJ
roadhorse- because I'm all over the place on the road
HalifaxTravaler,well,i am from Halifax Nova Scotia and i enjoy travel when ever i can,
olh and "BigMatt" is a nickname I got in football
Bringing this one back from the grave...
"Hunty" is a nickname I get from a ton of people.
"2022" is the year I created the account in.

Oh, now I see. I've posted in this conversation, but it was a third iteration, part of the "Random Thoughts" thread—starting here:

I just want to find out how you guys chose your usernames. I'll start:
ComputerGuy: I like computers and I am a male.
NWI_Irish96
NWI = Northwest Indiana resident
Irish96 = 1996 Notre Dame graduate
Also my username on Twitter, TravelMapping, mobrule
The last car I owned was a Subaru Outback which was blue which is where I got the username from with the 7 just being a random number The username is also used on my Minecraft account.
Mine is simple, I watched Fury Road before I signed up for the forum.
"epzik8" is something nonsense I thought of for my YouTube channel in 2008 (a lot of YouTube users seemed to have meaningless handles back then), and I ended up making it my Internet-wide identity.
When I joined, I lived in Elsmere, DE, and my house number was 241.
I've been playing the piano and cello since I was a kid. Used to be more serious about it back then, but I'll still play from time to time.
On some sites I add a "130" to the end, a simultaneous reference to the nearest state highway to where I was born (IN 130), the nearest state highway to where I grew up (IA 130), and the highway with the fastest speed limit in the US (TX 130).
My first name is Liliana, and UwU is an emote often used by furries. However, despite UwU being in my username, I'm not a furry... yet.
I just chose mine from the city I was born in and the year I was born.
Over 20 years ago, when Dee Snider had a morning show on local radio in the Hartford area, they made quite an effort to get listeners engaged. It was common for people to be referred to as [Name] from [Town of residence].
At the time, I lived in West Hartford. There was already a "Mike from West Hartford" and "The Other Mike from West Hartford", so when I wrote in, I went with a [Name] the [Profession] nomenclature.
I've adopted it as my standard handle online, outside amateur radio use, when I don't need quasi-anonymity.
Kind of weird to see all the name of posters, in this thread, who haven't posted in years (or got their accounts disabled).
(Not counting David Backlin's passing earlier this year)
Really bringing this one back from the grave, eh?
My username's origin has remained the same throughout the 22 months since that thread:
j: First initial
lam: First three letters of last name
On mobrule, travelmapping, etc.:
Noco: Northern Colorado
Roads: Wide ways leading from one place to another, especially with specially prepared surfaces which vehicles can use
"gonealookin" is a baseball announcer's call. I sync up Oakland A's radio broadcasts with the TV feed. Vince Cotroneo, one of the A's radio announcers, will say, "There's a breaking ball, strike three called, and Mike Trout is gonealookin!" It's something nobody else would be likely to think of, so I use it on a few forums.
