Let the rabble fill in the blank, only post the two (or more cities) with the same nickname...
EXAMPLE: Charlotte, NC, and Cincinnati, OH?

REPLY: Queen City.
NOT RELEVANT: Queen City, TX
Detroit, MI and Dallas, TX - "Big D", although "Big D" is used far less for Detroit than Dallas.
St. Louis, Missouri, and Winnipeg, Manitoba, are both called "Gateway to the West." Which city one knows by this name likely depends on one's citizenship.
My intent here was for one poster to list the two cities, and let another post the nickname.

I have gone to your house and moved one of your furniture items 1 inch in a direction of my choosing.
it is left up to you to determine which furniture item, and which direction.

You're a fan of the
Oxford Classical Dictionary? Great reference work if you're interested in Ancient Greece and Rome.
San Francisco, CA and Frisco, TX.

San Francisco, CA and Frisco, TX.
incorrect. Frisco, TX is colloquially known as "Ted".

No, no, no! "The City by the Bay," is San Francisco, CA. Frisco, TX has no nickname that I am aware of, nor should it.
The rules are not that complicated, people!!

Once you said you're OCD, I decided I couldn't take this seriously.
Also: Chicago and New York. Both are known as "The Windy Apple."
Not according to my Oxford Classical Dictionary.
Everyone knows the Windy Apple is a cafe in Falls Church, VA. Or do they?
every city has likely been known as "the city" by the residents of its outskirts.
OK, I'll play. Blacksburg, Virginia, and Morgantown, West Virginia.
(The answer to this might hinge on one's alma mater....that's a hint as to what I'm thinking)

People from San Francisco hate, hate, HATE the nickname "Frisco".
My submission: Paris and Los Angeles
Here's another one for you:
Paris, France and Aurora, Illinois.
What's the nickname?

The use of that abomination of a word was banned by Emperor Norton himself.

Paname? La Ville Lumière?
I'm confused. I don't remember people in Aurora speaking that much French.

Knowing your alma mater, and relationship between it and the schools in those two cities, I'm guessing it's dirty.
The Bay Area is used for both Tampa, FL and San Fransisco to call their respective metropolitan areas.
Orlando, Coral Gables settle dispute over use of 'The City Beautiful' (http://articles.orlandosentinel.com/2007-12-02/news/beautiful02_1_coral-gables-orlando-city-city-beautiful) (December 2, 2007)
QuoteOrlando has postcard-perfect Lake Eola Park and scores of stately live oaks. Coral Gables boasts of the majestic Biltmore Hotel and manicured gardens.
So which town is more beautiful? For more than a year, the two Florida cities have been quietly fighting over that question as they negotiate the right to use the official slogan they share, "The City Beautiful." Last week, the cities compromised in what could be called the "Battle of the Beautiful."
The trouble started last year, Orlando leaders say, when Coral Gables applied for a federal trademark to give them the exclusive right to the phrase. Orlando Mayor Buddy Dyer didn't like the notion of another city forcing Orlando to paint over the slogan on its city seal.
A deal approved by the Orlando City Council allows each city to use the slogan in marketing and promotional materials in its own geographical area: Orlando has dibs on 22 Central Florida counties, and Coral Gables gets 10 in South Florida.
I'm sure there are plenty of regions within cities/metro areas in different states that have common nicknames, but just within California, there are three distinct "South Bay" regions:
-San Francisco Bay Area (San Jose/Silicon Valley)
-Los Angeles (Torrance/Redondo Beach/Hermosa Beach)
-San Diego (Chula Vista/National City)

I was just gonna say "Hicksville."
The following cities all share the same (incredibly unimaginative) nickname.
- Decatur, AL
- Little Rock, AR
- Sacramento, CA
- Evansville, IN
- Lawrence, KS
- Louisville, KY
- Grand Rapids, MI
- Columbia, SC
- San Antonio, TX
- Richmond, VA
What is it?
Also, it really bugs me that Jackson, Michigan has the nickname "Rose City" when there's also a Rose City, Michigan.

Whereas Pasadena is the City of Roses.
According to Wikipedia (so it must be true...) all of these cities are nicknamed "Rose City":
Cape Girardeau, Missouri
Chico, California
Little Rock, Arkansas
Lowell, Wyoming
Madison, New Jersey
Pana, Illinois
Pasadena, California
Portland, Oregon
Richmond, Indiana
Thomasville, Georgia
Tyler, Texas
