Title: Could Interstate 76 extend to Atlantic City?
Post by: J Route Z on May 19, 2013, 01:35:14 AM
Drop the Route 42 numbering, though keep the ACE shields where they are, but re-route 42 somehow. It would make 76 a complete interstate across NJ, with less confusion. The Expressway would be Interstate 76, like the NJTP is I-95.

Obviously you are new to this forum, so you do not know that it has been brought up many times in a lot of posts.  The reason is, that New Jersey was very happy with their road system as is, as well as costly upgrades would be required to bring NJ 42 up to interstate standards including also some improvements to the ACE.   There are other reasons I am sure, but I would email NJDOT and suggest it.  They may answer you back with another reason, as I was told something else back in the snail mail days.

Why re-route 42? Just make it end at 76.

Also, if NJDOT wants to be lazy and not upgrade it/get approval, just sign it as NJ 76 and be done with it. :pan:

These are definitely good ideas.  Also, how about an interchange with the turnpike?  It's a bit messed up that you have to go through the local roads to transfer between two major highways like this, although this isn't the only place in the areas where that's the case.  (The I-95/I-276 interchange in Pennsylvania that's now being built and the crossing of I-295 and the turnpike extension leading to I-276 are two other places that I'm sure inevitably cause people to get lost.)

Yes, this has been brought up numerous times.
