Title: Beat the Press ?
Post by: US71 on May 14, 2009, 11:45:51 AM
Anyone ever blogged about road news before the newspaper gets word of it or actually tipped off a paper?

Last week, I posted a blog about a section of US 71 washing out north of Mountaiburg:

Yesterday, one of the area papers finally picked up on the story:

I was wondering how many others this has happened to (not counting those who actually ARE newspaper reporters  ;-) )

It is possible, if there is a brand new road item that I discover and find nothing on, I usually rush to try to blog about it. With around 200 blog posts that go back several years now, nothing comes to mind immediately.

Last year during the flooding of the Ohio River valley, Justin was looking at the river and noted a couple of barges succumbing to water in the river. He snapped some photos and called the newspaper later on and they purchased and printed his photos for a news story.

Twitter seems to get a ton of the stories before the news does.

QuoteTwitter seems to get a ton of the stories before the news does.
And the news always thinks that they're the ones who report it first :-D :-D
