Here's a few pictures from my trip to Newfoundland a couple of weeks ago:
The overnight crossing from North Sydney NS with an early morning arrival in Port-aux-Basques NL.

And a few shots while driving along the Trans Canada Highway: wide and straight.....just wait for the ferry traffic to clear and you basically have the road to yourself!

And driving around the former United States Air Force Base at Stephenville, NL. You can drive across the ramp where the B-52's once waited out the Cold War.

Your photos are remarkably clear! Thank you for a fine group of pix showing the ferry setup as well as the roads. The plane on display is an F-102, used by the USAF's Air Defense Command. What was interesting to see is the freeway interchange. Are things that busy in Newfoundland? LOL!

Thanks. The Trans Canada is freeway/divided in several areas...and Metro St. John's pop. 220,000 also has a couple of freeways including the most easterly you can drive in North America: The end of the Trans Canada (7200 km from Victoria) where it tapers to two lanes at Logy Bay Road.

The stateroom photo reminds me a bit of officer staterooms on Navy ships. Enlisted berthings, as you can imagine, were not quite as nice (and were 3 bunks vertical in about that same amount of height).
Great photos. The scenery looks like a mix of Norway, Scotland and perhaps the Faroe Islands.
How much of a tourist destination is Newfoundland for Canadians? It looks like it's off the beaten path for a road trip or summer vacation.
What's with the giant "Maximum 60" sign?

You've probably have been cruising along at 100+ on the freeway and are now required to reduce to 60 as the TCH ends and tapers down to two lanes at Logy Bay Rd.

So if I'm doing the math right, that would mean I have to reduce from 65 MPH to just over 35 MPH in just short notice.

Yes......but not as far north. As I noted elsewhere.....the very northern tip of the island of Newfoundland is at about the same latitude as London UK.

Popular destination for those in eastern Canada.....and even someone in New England; a 12 hr. drive from Boston will have you on the wharf in North Sydney ready to board the overnight ferry.
And now with the 'Come from Away' ....9/11 connection, Newfoundland is becoming a destination especially in the Gander area.

No.....there would have been a sign a ways back advising of a speed reduction
I don't know how popular Newfoundland is for New Englanders. From where I lived in western MA, people would head up to New Brunswick and PEI, but I didn't know anyone that visited Newfoundland.
Maybe Mainards or those that lived further north did?
