Title: 2017 Northeast Corridor Trip - Boston and Back
Post by: noelbotevera on September 06, 2015, 05:08:36 PM
This is if Cedar Point is scratched....but anyways, in the summer of 2017, me and my dad are planning to head to the one and only Boston, Massachusetts. We have to stay in a hotel of course, but it's either go to New Hampshire or one between the I-95 and I-93 corridor. Suggest anything. Oh, by the way, routes in parentheses are alternate routes. As I said, suggest anything!

Route - Chambersburg to Boston via New Haven CT and New York NY
I-81 north to I-78
I-78 to (indecisive - choose a route!)
I-95 or take I-87 NB to US 1
US 1 back to I-95, stop at Mystic CT or New Haven CT
I-95 to Providence, stop at Providence Police Station (missing sister)
I-95 to I-93
I-93 through Boston for hotel, or I-90 WB
(Suggest anything!)

Spend some days in Boston...suggest anything!

Return: Boston to Chambersburg via Hartford CT
I-90 WB to I-84/I-291
(I-291 SB to I-91)
(I-91 SB to I-84 WB)
Stop in Hartford CT
I-84 WB either to I-81 or I-87 SB
(I-87 SB to I-95 SB)
(I-95 SB to NJ Turnpike SB)
(NJ Turnpike SB to I-78 WB)
(I-78 WB to I-81 SB)
I-81 SB to US 30 WB

Home!

It's beyond reason to go 84 to 87 south to 95.  From 87 at that point one takes 287 south.  Going to 95 adds many duplicative miles in areas with heavy traffic.

Similarly, unless you have a stop on US 1 in the Bronx, it is not useful as a through route.

Really, the thing to do is avoid the city altogether and take 78 to 287 to the Tappan Zee over to 95.

Forgot about the Garden State Parkway as well, apparently.

Taking 87 to 95 also means crossing the Hudson three times, and paying an unnecessary toll in the process.

GSP is my emergency route if traffic backs up on the Thruway/Tappan Zee. I can make it to the GSP Connector and take the GSP down to Exit 142 if traffic is that bad.

Return: Boston to Chambersburg via Hartford CT
I-90 WB to I-84/I-291
(I-291 SB to I-91)
(I-91 SB to I-84 WB)
Stop in Hartford CT
What's going on here?
Are you planning a stop in Springfield, MA prior to Hartford?

If not, I-84 goes straight through Hartford.  For such, there's no need to use either of the two separate I-291s in MA & CT.  The former (MA) is way out of your way and the latter (CT) bypasses Hartford to the northeast.

I-291 in MA. I may or may not do a stop in Springfield and see what's there, but if it doesn't peak my interest, I'll just skip to Hartford.
