Old pictures from Mena, AR (route marker content)
« on: June 20, 2012, 05:07:42 PM »

These are some pictures that were posted to a Facebook group that I'm a member of.  There are several route markers in these photos, along with other signs that are now gone or completely changed.  The pictures were taken in the early '70s.  AHTD has used the same style of signs since the '60s, so the signs look identical to the new signage.  Here are some pictures.

If you look closely in the background, you can see an AR 88 cutout:

AR 8 now secretly follows US 71 and the AR 8/88 intersection is now just a crossing of a city street.  The rerouting of AR 8 was done in the late '80s.  Old AR 8 through this stretch is old US 71 as well.

I don't remember where I got this picture, but I had it saved on my hard drive.  If it is your picture, let me know so I can credit you.

Nice! Old and new font styles on the shields :)
