Wow, Jones with an amazing catch, but Atlanta can't do anything with it

Then Edelman with a crazy catch and the Pats are knocking on the door at the 2 minute warning

Really they got to get into the end-zone here.  There isn't too much time to get another full field drive going.

Tie game, what a finish this turning out to be.

Looks like we're going for the first overtime in Super Bowl history

Amazing game. Cannot believe this will be the 1st OT in Super Bowl history.

Indeed it is, this should be interesting.  Makes me wonder if that missed extra point is going to come back to haunt New England.

Almost blew it with that pass....  What a friggin comeback, glad that I didn't turn the game off after all.  :-D

They made up for that with their first 2 point conversion. Had they hit all their extra points they still would have been down 28-20.

Yeah in retrospect that was the beer talking.  That would have made more sense if that 2-point conversion at 28-26 was missed.  Man, what a finish though....but maybe sudden death isn't the way to go with overtime in the Super Bowl?  Why not just play a full 15 minutes, it isn't like there is a game the week after.

Alex

Greatest comeback and greatest choke in SB history in the same game?
So much for a new SB winner. That graphic they showed with world titles where Atlanta had one to Boston's 27 ended up being quite appropriate.

Oh biggest choke by a country mile, all Atlanta had to do was make ONE defensive stop.  I would still put the Rams/Titans and the Patroits/Panthers game ahead of this one despite the comeback.

Yeah, the OT rule is pretty dumb IMO. It was good that they got rid of a first possession FG ending the game, but they just had to leave the sudden death aspect in if its a first possession TD.

Here's hoping that having the first OT Super Bowl end this way puts pressure on the league to do something about the rules to ensure both teams get to have a possession no matter what.

Alex

Was thinking of that Atlanta vs Boston graphic and got it wrong. The SB 51 win is the 36th championship for Boston among the 4 major sports. https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sports_in_Boston

Haha, Goodell got the shit booed out of him.  :-D

At minimum in the playoffs both teams ought to get a possession.  There isn't any reason why the length of the overtime should matter in a post season game.  At least with this game it was pretty clear that the OT rules didn't hose the other team.  Atlanta could have won this game with a stop on any of those drives or those two point conversions and it never would have gotten to OT.

Hell I find it amusing Detroit ranks 5th with 22 and somehow the Lions have contributed 4 despite not winning since 1957.  That is kind of amazing in retrospect the Braves only one World Series.  That was pretty funny when Goodell got booed.  :-D

Or perhaps not trying to throw the ball while in FG range up 8 with about 3 minutes left. The sack and then holding call killed them.

True, running the ball seems to be lost art these days.

Goddamn it, Atlanta! You weren't supposed to snatch defeat from the jaws of victory! :banghead:

Greatest comeback in Super Bowl history.  First overtime in Super Bowl history.  Most yards passing by a QB in Super Bowl history.  Heck, the game even played out like Trump's win since he was farther down in the October polls than any POTUS winner ever has been, which is appropriate considering he is friends with Kraft, Belichick and Brady.  Now Brady gets the record for most Super Bowl wins as a QB and most Super Bowl MVP awards.  NE covered the spread but it was done with the most improbable game flow I have ever seen in a Super Bowl.

Overtime is so driven by the coin toss - if Atlanta won it, might it have been a different story??

Then again, Atlanta came out at half-time very tired from the get go. What were they doing / drinking while Gaga was on?

Dang it. I decided to pull a FC Barcelona and not congratulate the Patriots.
