Wasted Space

Any roads or intersections have wasted space that could easily accommodate an extra lane or two that is needed but doesn't?  I'm talking either with minor road widening or restriping lanes to use all available pavement?

An example:
CT-123 underpass is 4-lanes but there is enough space under the bridge to fit in at least 2-more lanes either as a through-lane or exclusive left-turn lane.

and on CT-69 NB there is definitely enough space to restripe and add in an exclusive left-turn lane.

Without seeing the actual Right-Of-Way lines for CT 69 and surrounding property lines for that intersection; there may be land-takings involved for such a road widening.

Picture is MA 28 south.

North of here, it's 2 lanes in each direction. South of here, it's 2 lanes in each direction. It's still 2 car widths. This is a 1/4 mile section of 1 lane in each direction.

Any road in PA with a center turn lane in a rural area was once 4 lanes and should be restored. (I'm looking at US 30.)

DE 1 has a stretch through Dover that has enough space in the left shoulder for an extra through lane.  It starts a little south of the Bay Road overpass and goes to the entrance of the quarry south of Exit 92.

Eastbound I-24 in Tennessee near Murfreesboro has such a stretch a little over a mile long, starting at the US 231 interchange.

MA 28 is 152 miles long.  It would help to know where on MA 28 this photo was taken.

It's about 1 mile south of the New Hampshire border.

Until about 5-7 years ago, CA-87 was the same way through San Jose.   They redid the highway, along with many settling issues and made it 3 lanes (HOV left).
Take the road less traveled.
