Right-of-way clearance of three of the largest remaining buildings is in progress right now. (However, there are hundreds of smaller properties remaining to be cleared.)

This building is at Main Street. Part of this housing complex, which I think is mainly for the low income sector, is being cleared.

Two large buildings are being demolished on Segment 1, which is the segment north of Loop 610 and will be the last section to be built, starting no sooner than 2032 (but probably later). There already are many cleared lots along Segment 1. There is still a huge number of properties remaining, so it's good TxDOT is making steady progress on this section to have it ready for construction by the 2030s.

North Houston Medical Plaza is at 7007 North Freeway. Full size  Full size

This building reduced to its structural shell is at 7333 North Freeway. Full size

At next week's meeting the TxDOT Commission will start the process for the design-build contract for the interchange at I-69 and I-10 on the northeast side of downtown. The selection of a design-build contractor takes a very long time at TxDOT (around 2 years), so it's good to see the process getting started.

Presentation with cross-section views

  • Design-Build cost estimate: $2.14 billion
  • Project includes two new ramps to the future Hardy Toll Road downtown extension
  • Proposals due by qualified contractors in January 2028
  • Contractor selected in summer 2028
  • Construction complete in Spring 2036
