Because of how the NCDOT website has changed their "route changes" page, some of these are bound to slip by me...

Anyway, in August 2013, NC 47 was extended from I-85 to I-85 Business...

No idea if the postings have gone up.  GMSV is from summer 2012 on the new part of 47.

I noticed that the signage for NC 47 had changed on I 85 when I last drove that way and put it on my list of things to check out.

NCDOT correspondence on the NC 47 extension from last July indicated the signage change would be part of the project (R-4750) upgrading US 52 to I-285 under its original planned September 2013 letting. Since that project has since been delayed and changed, perhaps they went ahead with signing the route independent of the Bus 85/US 52 work that was only recently started.

This make perfect sense, since there are no southbound exit onto Future I-285; they would needed some official highway there to fill the gap and move it up in ranking for future maintenance.  I'll have to check it out when I go by there.

I've always found it quite odd that the signs for Exit 88 (Linwood) never mentioned NC 47, even though it was there. Perhaps a new signing project is in order for that area, in conjunction with the I-285 project?
Go Cubs Go! Go Cubs Go! Hey Chicago, what do you say? The Cubs are gonna win today!

Yes, that is true. I stopped by the gas station in that area sometimes, and yes, NC 47 is indeed extended to Business 85 (US 29-52-70). There is a begin and end NC 47 signage when you get off North Business 85 (Exit 84). However, it is not signed on the southbound side, because you have to get on a local road and across Business 85 in order to get to NC 47.

So, to make this a little clear, NC 47 begins and ends at the ramp towards and from Northbound Business 85 (northbound entrance and exit, with no southbound entrance and exit).  But, yes, the signage is there.

On I-85, exit 88, the new signage now shows NC 47 (Linwood Road) only on the northbound side, but the southbound side signage seems unchanged (Still shows TO BUSINESS 85 NORTH, TO NC 47 EAST, LINWOOD).

So I drove to NC 47's western terminus today and took pictures (posting on flickr soon).  The end sign is right at the ramp to I-85 Bus/US 29/US 52/US 70 northbound, and there is also a begin sign right at the turn of the entrance ramp from same interchange.  Construction signs in the area because of construction along that area becoming I-285.

Strider

Yeah, they already begun transforming the road into I-285. I would say.. about time. Since it is only around 2 miles of construction, I hope they will slap in the new I-285 signage immediately.

I'll be super impressed if I-285 is signed before 2016...

NCDOT still has to reconstruct a couple miles closer to Winston-Salem before I-285 can be signed. This northern section was removed from the current project contract a couple months before it went out to bid last fall. A new project was created to reconstruct the northern section, but it is not funded as of yet, meaning, unless funds are found, or the FHWA grants a waiver, it could be many years now before any I-285 signs appear.

I'm thinking a waiver needs to be written up Bob, make it happen. LOL.

Which section in Winston-Salem are you referring too?  If its north of I-40, that will not be part of I-285 as planned by NCDOT (maybe later when I-74 is constructed); if its south of I-40, which doesn't appear bad at all, they could easily get a waiver.

It's south of I-40 to the S. Main St Exit. (Exit 103). I definitely agree it's worth the waiver. (Used to travel it quite a bit when I visited family in Lexington.)

The end sign appears right before road becomes a on-ramp to northbound I-85 Bus/US 29/US 52/US 70.  The begin sign appears right at the northbound off-ramp of the freeway.  It's nice when NCDOT put both begin/end signs up.
