Sorry. This is the first time since the new year I've been on here.

Why would anybody steal a 420 mile marker?  Is 420 the name of a Rush song or something?

"You know, you never have a guaranteed spot until you have a spot guaranteed."

commenting on the Capitals clinching a playoff spot.

"That sounded stupid, didn't it?"
—Kolzig, to the same reporter a few seconds later.

I don't think there has ever been a definitive answer as to why the number 420 is associated with smoking dope.

Closest i could find was a group of students used 4:20 as a time to meet and smoke dope.

Big John's avatar fits this thread quite nicely, I must say.

Two questions:

1) Did they actually move the marker .01 mile back?

2) Couldn't they have just left it where it is and written "419.9̅9̅"?

Yeah, I didn't doubt it's real because I recalled seeing pictures of that sign somewhere before (I have never been to Wisconsin but would like to get up there to visit Whistling Straits). I just thought it particularly appropriate in this particular thread.

Yes, they did move the marker to the west 52.8 feet. I don't have the newspaper article, but the CDOT spokesman said words like, "Our guys are that good."
"Tongue-tied and twisted; just an earth-bound misfit, I."

On I-70 in Utah milepost 69 has been replaced with 68.99. Because, you know, people have nothing better to do in the middle of Utah than steal mile markers.

I've not seen that In Arkansas yet, but then, AHTD is bad about mileposts.

419.99 could be interpreted as, "Hey, it's almost 420."

If CDOT really wanted to make an impact, they should have moved it to 420.01.

Louisiana is just as bad as Arkansas.  About 3 years ago, they replaced all of the mileposts on I-20 with the ones that include the interstate shield and direction above the mile location...and the numbers read horizontal instead of vertical.  I don't know if DOTD or the contractor did this, but the new mileposts in many area were put in the wrong place...for many many miles!   :banghead:
