http://goo.gl/maps/2cvwF - this comes right after the directional signage on Edgewood Drive, which shows Alexandria as the complete other direction. Now, let's say you agree that Alexandria is to the right instead of the left, which is clearly visible when you're driving over the Expressway... and you take it, to see this sign... http://goo.gl/maps/aCH7s

Turn left towards Alexandria, and this is what's there. http://goo.gl/maps/hLGnN

Would Pineville be the best city to use for US 167 in this area? US 71 at US 167 avoids this completely. Instead of shoving the Alexandria designation onto US 167, US 71 picks it up when you go under the Expressway. http://goo.gl/maps/bGukO

For what it's worth, most of your traffic taking the US 165 exit, northbound on 167, is coming from Alexandria, or has chosen to go to Winnfield INSTEAD of Alexandria. It's way more confusing to drive every day.

I was noticing, that Alexandria is mentioned at US 167 along I-10 and only Opelousas is used on I-49 at Lafayette.  Interesting that has happened, that both and interstate and US route that go to one specific city of one particular size and get only mentioned on the US route, while the interstate gets a smaller city.

The same takes place, in NJ along I-80 where I-287 SB gets Morristown and US 206 further west gets Somerville going SB when its a point further south along I-287.  Although Morristown is of decent size and excellent choice for control point and great to be used along I-80 exit guides for I-287, its still fascinating to see this happen as well.  US 206 has Somerville as its first major population center going SB from I-80 at Netcong, so it ended up this way.
Every day is a winding road, you just got to get used to it.

And this is why you're supposed to just use "Next n Exits". I agree that Alexandria should not be signed here. It's like going through New York on I-278, and as soon as you get to NJ, you have an exit to the NJ Turnpike where the northbound destination is New York.
