Why is Merrick Avenue (Nassau CR 4) so popular?

So, when I look at the statistics for the most popular pages on my site, I've consistently found that the page for Merrick Avenue (Nassau CR 4) ranks surprisingly high.  This month, it's the fourth most popular page, behind only the Connecticut Turnpike (I-95), the Brooklyn-Queens Expressway (I-278), and the Long Island Expressway (I-495).  That places it ahead of all the parkways, other major interstates like the New Jersey Turnpike (I-95) and the New York Thruway (I-87), and more major local roads like US 1, US 9, NY 25, and NY 27.  Just wondering if anyone had any insight as to why people find this particular road to be of interest.

Maybe the reference to "Post Road" is showing up in search results and drawing traffic?

Of course I had to visit the page to see what all the fuss is about; here's a link :-)

I think a lot of Long Islanders know that road well.

Yes, and a lot of Long Islanders also know Glen Cove Road (Nassau CR 1), Old Country Road (Nassau CR 25), Merrick Road (Nassau CR 27), and the various state routes, yet those pages don't rank near the top in the same way.

Perhaps the fact that it runs through historic and prestigious Old Westbury might have something to do with it.

:hmmm:   :coffee:  :camera:

Merrick Ave. does not run thru the Village of Old Westbury. Merrick Ave. changes its name to Post Ave. in the Village of Westbury, and then to Post Road in Old Westbury.

Correct, but all three make up Nassau CR 4 and hence get a single page on my site.

Works for me. I actually remember back in the 1960's when the county posted route markers on all its roads. Good thing they discontinued it though, 'cause NYS DOT would have used those markers for the cross roads on their parkway exit signs instead of the road names. Imagine Old Country Rd. being signed as CR-25. That would have messed a lot of people up! LOL
