I recently purchased a General Traffic Equipment 8" traffic signal. It is the company's 1st generation 8" aluminum vehicular head model, and it was manufactured sometime in the early 2000s. The traffic signal was intended to be installed in the city of New York, which did not happen. With that said, the traffic signal is still brand new.

Because General Traffic Equipment manufactured this one for the city of New York, it originally met NYCDOT specifications, which have since changed. Even so, in the early 2000s, a newly-installed traffic signal in New York City was originally required to use red and green L.E.D. inserts (those produced by CooperLED/AtLite Inc.) and an incandescent amber section with a glass reflector. For the connections of the wires inside the traffic signal housing, a deadfront type terminal block (1100 series from Marathon electric) was to be installed in the middle section (where amber is located).

The specifications were slightly altered in the mid 2000s, and they have been effective since then. A new head today must have all three L.E.D. inserts in use, so the incandescent amber section is long gone in New York City.

Below, are some picture of the traffic signal.

I'm hoping to wire this traffic signal to one of my N.Y.C. signal controllers this weekend.
