Overhead Sign in Orlando That Makes No Sense

The signs couldn't be worse or more confusing. Also, it's rather odd that the right turn movement is allowed from two locations, but I see the reason.

Yes, I second that, what? This is most certainly not in Orlando...  :poke:

Maybe the sign is really, really small, about 1,000 miles ahead.

Fixed it. Somehow it didn't copy to the clipboard.

It pretty much makes sense to me, except there's county roads in Florida-that's certainly new. :-/

I get it, having looked at the map while sitting here at my computer. I would probably not work it out encountering it in person for the first time, which is of course when it should be most helpful.

Only part that doesn't really add up, though, is that John Young Pkwy north does not lead "to" LB McLeod east. Both use the straight ahead movement, yes, but then you have an option of one or the other, not a sequence of one to the other. And obviously, the CR shields could have been incorporated into the John Young verbiage.

I think that the road to the right is supposed to be exclusively for LB McLeod Road WB and SB JYP and CR 423 is supposed to pass through the light and then turn to avoid weaving around the corner.

However, I know the intersection well, and people going SB on 423, use the cut off and do the weaving thing regardless, so the sign needs to be replaced. Perhaps if NB CR 423 is given an left arrow instead of straight and EB LB McLeod is brought over to the left panel with SB CR 423, it would work.

BTW, look at the pavement arrows and you can see what the attempt by FDOT is here.
Every day is a winding road, you just got to get used to it.

It's apt to be confusing, but it kind of makes sense. Using one of the old-school (pre-arrow per lane requirements) "tree diagrams" with two branches on the right would suffice.

Also, county road pentagons aren't rare for Florida, although there are a few counties where they are rarely used (Duval, Broward, Miami-Dade are examples). They out-number SR shields in rural counties and those on the SW coastline.

I also think its very confusing, while I do understand it (Orlando signs stuff like this a bit with the weird right turn lanes). The right sign indicates which lane to be in. The left sign indicates the movement options for the left lane only. The pavement arrows indicate you can turn left or right, but the sign is calling the left straight as its not a full angle. There is plenty of room to merge over, so I also would use the right lane for all the right turn movements, especially as there is no right turn lane at the light and you could be waiting for a vehicle turning left to make your right.

These signs should really be incorporated into one, with the C-423 shields under the appropriate directions for the lanes of travel. Why they added a second sign is beyond me, and it sounds very redundant as well.

I guess the sign on the left is the original one, and the one on the right was added after. The one on the right probably should just be removed and recenter the one on the left to make the lanes more clear.
