Both capitals of Georgia and South Carolina are not only  the two I-20 control cities here on SC 230 in North Augusta, but they are the only cities mentioned on the entire overhead at this location.

I'm sure two state capitals for interstates or other designations is common ( as I'm sure it is especially in the Augusta area), but to be on one overhead exclusively ( no other panels included) I would figure is not as common.
Every day is a winding road, you just got to get used to it.

Exit 33 on I-495 in Massachusetts qualifies. It has I-95 northbound signed for Boston and I-95 southbound signed for Providence, RI (with state abbreviation), and no other cities listed.

And there are a couple of interchanges along I-85 in Alabama where the other roads sign Montgomery and Atlanta. (Signs in Georgia tend to include Columbus as well, so they don't qualify.)

I don't know whether you'd count it if the two signs at the same interchange aren't right next to each other, but US-9 at "free" I-90 in New York has one sign listing Albany and then the next sign a little further up the road listing Boston.

Between Providence, Boston, Concord, Hartford and Albany, 2 are easy. Every overhead on a Masspike ramps would be Boston that way, Albany other way.
How about 3 though?
I-91 interchange with I-90 may be a candidate.

But the point was to have no other cities aside from the capitals. There are various Massachusetts Turnpike on-ramps that list other in-state cities in addition to Boston (Worcester, for example), thus disqualifying them.

I just looked at the I-90/I-91 interchange on Street View and it looks like it doesn't qualify because while the signs for the Turnpike list Boston and Albany, the signs for I-91 list Holyoke and Springfield, neither of which is a state capital.

This would be a clean one:

This depends on how clean you want things to be - "no other panels" may be ambiguous:

In Fort Wayne, you find this sign for Lansing and Indianapolis (there are others at other interchanges, such as at I-469):

Here's one near Fort Collins with Denver and Cheyenne. I assume there are other similar ones along that same general portion of I-25, but I wasn't motivated to try to assemble a complete inventory.

-- US 175 --

Nothing in TX qualifies.  Depending on the highway, you'll get Oklahoma City, or Austin, but not both.  There are no control city guide signs for Santa Fe, Denver, or Baton Rouge that I've seen.  There might be Little Rock ones on I-30 in Texarkana, but I can't remember.

Molandfreak

Little Rock / Nashville.

Unfortunately, there doesn't appear to be a single assembly featuring the Oklahoma City / Little Rock combination of control cities. US 64 at I-40 does have this combination with no other control cities, but not on a single assembly and not on an overhead.

This doesn't qualify, since it's not overhead, but I bring it up since it has two capitals and could easily have a third, but "Providence" only appears on the next sign across the bridge at the entrance to 384 East.

This sign does have 3 different looking interstate shields on it, though.  I never would have noticed such a thing before joining this forum.

There's this one on I-540. Memphis is there too, but there's no good reason for it to be. (I think they just didn't want to make the sign wider so they split Oklahoma City across two lines, and then wanted the Little Rock side to have two lines too for aesthetic balance reasons. Word to the wise—this is why ODOT always writes it as "Okla. City".)

Thanks to the advent of APLs, perhaps some of you will remember this famous State Capitals joke:

But neither one is a state capital (Frankfort is).

Anyway, the eastern end of the western I-84 has Salt Lake City and Cheyenne as I-80 control cities.

I was just in Fort Wayne on Saturday. They even include MI for Lansing. This was the first one I thought of when I saw the post.

Passed by the Mass Pike interchange on I-495 today and noticed these signs meet the criteria for Boston and Albany (NY) - edited my original listing to reflect this:

APL approach signage from I-495 onto the Mass Pike
Exit gore signage on I-495 to the Mass Pike
Approach signage to Mass Pike from I-495

Also this one on I-291 too

I was looking for one in Rocky Mount, NC where US 64 meets I-95, but there aren't enough good overheads at that interchange that shows them both.

Quote from: Henry on July 05, 2026, 06:32:25 PMAnyway, the eastern end of the western I-84 has Salt Lake City and Cheyenne as I-80 control cities.

The only other combinations I can imagine west of the Rockies would be Salt Lake City/Boise and Salt Lake City/Denver.

Southbound I-15 at I-84 has SLC and Boise, but with other cities named.  Likewise, northbound I-15 at Cove Fort has SLC and Denver, but also with other cities.

In the Reno area, any overhead with both Sacramento and Carson City has to have something else on it, either Susanville for northbound US 395 or Elko for eastbound I-80.  It wouldn't be unreasonable for southbound US 395 to have Sacramento, Carson City and Salt Lake City as the three control cities, but Northern Nevada doesn't acknowledge SLC along eastbound I-80 until Battle Mountain (on a mileage sign) and Elko (as a control city).
