Wisteria Island is about 1 mile from Mile Marker 0 on US 1 at the Monroe County Courthouse.  Essentially the waters around Wisteria have historically been a squatting ground for people who don't mind living on their boats in lieu of paying expensive rent prices in Key West.  Ironically nearby Tank Island was very much Naval property has become the uber gentrified Sunset Key.
