I have been on US 14A between Burgess Junction, WY & Cody, WY on a trip back in 1998 & after looking at several maps, I have noticed there is an older allignment that goes down the hill on the West side. The old road starts out paved as County Rd. 651 & then becomes a dirt trail & then goes down the hill. At one point, about halfway down the hill, the road becomes paved again & ends at US 14A at the bottom of the hill. This road is also called Old US Hwy 14A on Google Maps.
One thing I would like to know is when was this allignment bypassed?

I don't have the answer to your question, but it sounds like a question for the Mountain West board:

Looking at the terrain map, the old alignment has by my count 13 tight switchbacks that the new alignment bypasses with more sweeping curves and is 3 miles shorter. I'd guess that the old alignment couldn't be upgraded for safety due to terrain and the proximity of the creek in some instances and the new one was built.
So many miles and so many roads

I also noticed that County Rd 901 was also OLD US 14A as well.
Also, I have moved my thread here.
