Anyone renting a vehicle in OK, TX or KS are forced to do toll-by-plate or spend a fortune to use the agency's system - which does not normally use the in-state system due to the car's potential to be anywhere in the country at a given time. (TX especially - as none of the agencies provide a candy bar)

If you are driving a rental in Texas, you are stuck paying it through the exorbitant rates the rental companies charge. If you are driving a rental in Texas either buy the flat-rate toll package when you rent or use the "avoid tolls " setting on your GPS.  As far as DFW and Houston goes, the only place you really have problems without tolls is North  Plano / Frisco  area. Then again, I rarely have a rental here in Texas any way.
