Road Oddities in Bloomfield, CT

I came across a few road related oddities of note regarding Bloomfield, Connecticut on the Connecticut Museum Quest website. Just some things about naming conventions on local roads, an uncomfortable lane merge and more.

I think that Bloomfield quirk has to do with I-291 never being continued west then south from that area. It was supposed to be the start of the NW quadrant for the Hartford Beltway.

Looks like I missed experiencing that curve merge on CT 218 since I clinched it going in the other direction.

That curve is a NIGHTMARE during rush hour.  Going east there's a squeeze too with cars in the lane to turn right into Cigna suddenly merging back in to the one through lane.

As far as the 291 beltway, it would have followed CT 218 to a point, then bent south just west of there, crossing US 44 just west of Renbrook School, then crossed CT 4 just west of the reservoirs before connecting to the stack at I-84.  Much of the ROW south of US 44 is still pretty vacant when I look at a satellite shot, but the area between US 44 and where it would hit 218 might take out a few houses depending on the path. This highway should have been built to alleviate traffic through Hartford on I-84 eastbound bound for the airport and Springfield, plus as an alternate for points east of Manchester.
