When official Interstate 685 signs go up, I would imagine they might sign 685 in portions. The Interstate 85-to-NC 62 segment, the NC 49-to-S. Chatham Ave. Ext./Sam Fields Rd. segment, or the Samford Bypass segment could each be the first segments to get signed as 685, once each of these segments are up to Interstate Standards.
