I think this is right And no, I haven't been to very many states.

2014: Oregon, Idaho
2013: Washington
2012: California
2011: New York
2010: Wyoming, Montana
2009: Nevada

And not sure if this one counts:
2014: SLC Airport (Utah), never been outside of this layover

To world travelers, layovers at airports don't count visiting a country until you pass customs in that nation.

However, to most county-counters, I and others, will probably count an airport layover if you hadn't already clinched the county otherwise. Lucky for me, though, my layovers were only ever in DFW, Atlanta, and Chicago. Places I've been to many times before.

Visits to other states: 2007 Washington State (Seattle) and 2006 Oklahoma (Tulsa) to see my relatives.

Visits to other nations: 2008 Mexico (Pto. Vallarta, Mazatlan and Cabo) and 2005 France for a family vacation.

Lay-overs: 2006 Denver Intl Airport, which is a new state-of-the-art airport compared to bland ugly LAX.
