Dedicated arrow for a non-dedicated turn lane

Here is an example of a 4th level right turn green arrow at an intersection.  The issue is the right lane isn't a dedicated right turn lane.  Any other examples like this out there?

Michigan Street in Grand Rapids has a few.

And here's a debatable example. While the far right lane is a dedicated right turn lane, the second lane is a thru/right lane. Lots of honking when the green arrow lights up and not everyone in the second lane is heading in the same direction.

Good example.  Does that setup (specifically the doghouse centered over the right  lane) violate the MUTCD?

I'm no MUTCD expert. While I can't really find anything about the far right lane being a thru/right lane, it looks like the doghouse signal shown here would be acceptable if it were a dedicated right turn lane. You're welcome to wade through Section 4D.24 yourself and figure it out.  :-P

It's interesting to note that Section 4D.21, Paragraph 5 states: "A protected only mode right-turn movement that does not begin and terminate at the same time as the adjacent through movement shall not be provided on an approach unless an exclusive right-turn lane exists." Every example in this thread so far would be classified as "protected/permissive", so it's probably technically okay... but to me, that suggests this practice isn't the best idea.

We have quite a good number of those. Some are like getemngo posted, where they are on a doghouse and only light up when side traffic has a protected left. Others are illuminated all the time, usually with a sign saying 'Continuous Right Turn With Caution'

Here is one at W Towsontown Blvd @ Osler Dr in Towson, MD. Here is another at Kenilworth Ave @ Bosley Ave in Towson, MD. Interestingly, the Kenilworth one uses a doghouse, and although this is a T intersection, there are no pavement markings indicating movements. I'd say most people use the right lane for turns though.

Posting via iPad, so I don't know of a way to give you a Street View link. Look up eastbound Constitution Avenue at 18th Street NW in Washington, DC. Similar situation to what you describe, except it's a left turn.....also, lots of people illegally go straight from the left-only lane, so if you turn from the option lane, you run a serious risk of being in a crash. The other thing that happens is the straight-thru traffic has a green when the left-turning traffic has a red arrow. Heaven help you if you stop in the option lane to obey the red arrow because you want to go left when thru traffic has that green.

I'm sure I've posted a Street View of that at some point in the past.

Just spotted another one of these at the end of the ramp for I-95 in Baltimore to Key Highway. Southbound Exit 55. Ahead is E McComas Street, which runs underneath I-95 for a few blocks. Drivers in the right lane that do not turn may get some angry honks. However there is another ramp back to I-95 SB just beyond the light, so there could definitely be some traffic going straight (like me in this case).

Following on my earlier comment, here is the DC intersection I mentioned. The roads have been repaved and the pavement markings are clearer now than when the Google car went through, but the configuration is the same. Note the red arrow for left-turning traffic.

Columbus, OH, has a fair number of examples of this...the one at the forefront of my mind is SB Hamilton Rd at Refugee Rd...

The right turn arrow comes on only when EB Refugee Rd gets their left turn arrow, so it's pretty pointless.

There's a couple of examples in Baltimore I can think of.
This one is on Reisterstown Rd (MD 140) and Liberty Heights Av (MD 26) at Mondawmin Mall: http://goo.gl/maps/ifbyP

This one also on Liberty Heights Av, this time at Gwynn Oak Av. Both signals have arrows, but none have marked lanes for them: http://goo.gl/maps/RR8re

Just up the road at Rogers Av. There used to be another one for eastbound traffic, but they removed it: http://goo.gl/maps/cFxf1
