You'd think you were in the USA.......

....but it's the former USAF Harmon Field at Stephenville, Newfoundland.

And a few shots around town:

-This overpass was constructed in the centre of town to keep the US Base traffic away from Canadian civilian traffic.

-Once known as the "Harmon Hilton"  these buildings are now the Stephenville Manor and College of the North Atlantic.

-Former base housing turned over to the Town of Stephenville

-And Carolina Ave now runs along the abandoned aircraft ramps but the main runway is still in use as YJT - Stephenville Airport.

And another relic of the Cold War era is the former US Naval Air Station at Argentia, Newfoundland.

Here I'm on the Marine Atlantic Ferry from North Sydney approaching the terminal located on the former base.

NL100 (left) was constructed to the Ferry Terminal to kept traffic off the parallel US base road system.
