I'll have to pull my old maps, but seems like it either ended at US 70 or at the Mississippi River

AASHTO had it ending one mile into Tennessee at "Jct. I-55" (presumably the Crump cloverleaf). AHTD appears to have ended it at the I-40/55 wye once that was built; previously it had followed current 77 to end at US 70 in West Memphis (while US 61 split along what's now I-55 to the bridge). The 1946 (revised 1954) Crittenden County map shows 61-63 on the modern I-55 alignment from Turrell to West Memphis, with US 63 still splitting.

I had an Arkansas official map (it seems like it was a 1950) and it had a picture of the newly opened expressway to Memphis (what is now I-55). I can't remember for sure, but I think it was labelled "US 61-64-70-79" with no mention of US 63.

There is a picture on the 1951 map and does show "New U.S. Highway 61-63-70-79, east of West Memphis."

The 1934 map shows the zero mileage at Turrell.
