There are a few people living in the same building as me who have been there for over 40 years. And I think the previous tenant of our apartment had been there for almost that long.

One of my neighbors has been here for at least 15 years, going through 3 Landlords and multiple property managers

In a house now -- but the longest time in one actual apartment was when I was living in Redlands; that turned out to be 5 years and 8 months.  Moved in because it was convenient to work for both my GF and myself; moved out when (a) she had to go back to Georgia for a while to take care of her ailing father and (b) my job was terminated by new corporate ownership; I ended up moving out to Hesperia with another co-worker who was in the same position as myself.  But in 2012 I ended up coming back to San Jose, having left there in the late '80's, and my GF moved back to CA to join me (she's a surgical nurse, so she can pretty much find work anywhere!).  Got a good deal on the rental of a house owned by my business partner; so far, so good.

About 2-1/2 years, in the only apartment we ever rented.  The rest of the time was in houses or student housing.  (If you count married housing in grad school as an apartment; that would be another 9 months.)
