A few months ago I got interviewed for this podcast series and finally Cap Radio has started posting episodes. It's more cultural than roadgeeky, and it's almost exclusively concerned with the southern California leg of US 395, but it's still a nice production. Here's the first episode with yours truly:

Just started giving these a listen since I'm working on a portion of US 395 from Topaz Lake to CA 14 on Gribblenation.  Personally what I like about US 395 is just the general access to a lot of remote and really cool places.  I've made an annual journey over Tioga Pass every year since I've been back to California just to visit places like Bodie, see a ghost town, museum or even hike one of the many eastern Sierra Lakes.  The only place that in the El Camino Sierra stretch of US 395 that doesn't really have an authentic feel to me is modern Mammoth...which is blunted a little by hiking access at Devil's Postpile.  While I enjoy a scenic road I more so enjoy places that have some historic value to them or at least offer solitude outdoors.  In that regard US 395 reminds me a lot of places I used to visit in Arizona, I suspect it plays a huge part in why I enjoy the road so much.

Just listened to the next episode on the Marine Base in Bridgeport.  Interestingly I had an investigator who used to work for me in Florida who was briefly stationed in Bridgeport on TD out of 29 Palms.  He was from Guam and really struggled with elevation sickness, he didn't didn't recall very fond memories of being stationed in the Eastern Sierras.  I remember around circa 2014 he took his girlfriend to Colorado and they apparently decided to ski in Loveland Pass.  I got a call (for those don't know I'm experienced long distance hiker) from him asking why he was so sick out in the mountains, I guess he didn't realize he was over 12,000 feet above sea level.  I guess the trainers at Bridgeport told him to stay in the elevation and relax until your blood oxygenated was the best way to combat elevation sickness.

I listened to the first two episodes on the van ride back home last night. Pretty good. It's always fun listening to a podcast and going "I know that guy". I hadn't realized that Cameron was local. We'll need to meet one of these days.

Yep, not too far away from your side of the valleys.

Drop me an email if you plan to be in the San Fernando Valley on a weekend (I work in El Segundo during the day).
