Commute time data

A friend of mine shot me an e-mail asking if he knew where I would find commute time data, but I can't think of anywhere off the top of my head and figured if anybody knew where he might find this type of information it would be one of you guys- here's his request

know any sources for commute data by city or zip code? I mainly want to know average distance from home to work but also summary stats like percentiles. would need to be by metro area or more sensitive (census block tract, zip)

I don't think the census keeps track of this stuff and I'm not sure who else might- if anybody knows where this data might be find-able, let me know.
