...pictorial "Go ahead" sign

And to add to the confusion, some folks in New York (or may be an east coast thing) shorten the phrase "Go ahead", to "GeHead".

I live in Ontario, Canada, and as far as I'm aware we've always used pictograph signs for "Stop Ahead" rather than text (unless it happened before my birth, prior to 1975 that would be). I definitely prefer it. I have seen the occasional text version in my travels in the US, but I certainly think the symbolic version is easier to interpret, especially for those whose first language may NOT be English.

As far as the pictoral Stop Ahead signs, I like them.

I also like their cousins, like the pictoral Yield Ahead, Speed Limit xx ahead, and even the Signal Ahead sign (with arrow) that's been talked about in another thread.

Adding the arrow makes the upcoming happening as always there.  Yellow pictoral signs without arrows should be for obstacles/happenings that MIGHT be there, but not always (Deer/Cattle Crossing, School Bus Stop Ahead, Ped Xing, etc...).
