I noticed that in Houston and Ozark Counties of SE Alabama there is a loop road of US 231 between the FL State Line and Midland City. The road runs close to the US route at two lanes, but avoids the development corridor of US 231 around Dothan.

Any others that you have used to bypass commercial development on a major through route?
Every day is a winding road, you just got to get used to it.

The road you speak of is AL 605, a relatively new Alabama state highway.  But I wouldn't call it a "better bypass" because it has the same lack of access control that plagues most state/US routes in Alabama.  In fact, there are already a number of residential developments along the route.
