Heh.  I've been in one country that I never set foot in, and I even got a passport stamp to go along with it.  This was in the late 1990s, and we were on a train from Krakow to Vienna.  At the Czech border town, the train pulled past the station to an immigration checkpoint.  Soldiers with drug-sniffing dogs boarded the train, collected everyone's passports, and took them into the immigration office.  After our passports were all stamped, the soldiers boarded the train again, distributed them back out to the passengers, the train reversed into the station, and then we were all on our way.

I had a similar situation with Bulgaria. Took the train from Bucharest to Istanbul and the train stopped to check our passports at the Romania/Bulgaria border, but we didn't get off the train. Thankfully we had to get off the train at the Bulgaria/Turkiye border because they needed to change the train gauge so I ended up disembarking and getting to set foot in Bulgaria.
