SD I-29 Closure

So, South Dakota is closing a portion of I-29 in the North Sioux City area to create a berm/levee/barrier at Exit 4.

The "official" detour is above.  That ridiculous detour is to comply with federal law that the Interstate system has to be connected.

With the flooding of the Big Sioux River, the state decided to create a make-shift barrier using Exit 4 on I-29, to divert water to McCook Lake.

I wish I could share a ton of other links... Like the SD National Guard turning away residents to bag sandbags, and only giving those waiting 2 hours 35 sandbags...

but SD decided to flood the McCook Lake area.  And those in the McCook Lake area feel like a sacrificial lamb to those down stream in North Sioux City and Dakota Dunes.

If you travel up that way, just be aware.
