Anybody know what the deal is with the LIE service roads as far as jurisdiction/maintenance? Particularly in Nassau County?

They have NYS reference route numbers (906A e/b and 906B w/b) but various sources show them either as state maintained or county maintained. (Basically, NYS GIS data shows the former, and NYSDOT inventory files show the latter.) I have seen a snippet of highway law that appears to show them transferred from state to county in Suffolk; perhaps the same happened in Nassau?

The short stretch between exits 43 and 44 is similarly shown as county maintained in one source and town maintained in another. :banghead:

I would go with inventory files over GIS data. On a day to day basis, your NYSDOT gruntsman isn't perusing GIS data, and probably doesn't know what it stands for.

That's sort of how I'm leaning, for a couple of reasons. For one, the inventory data shows evidence of being changed recently. For another, the info isn't necessarily contradictory...for example, a state touring route run along city streets would still show up as having a state shield according to the GIS file, despite being maintained by the city DOT.

Speaking of LIE service roads, at some ramps at Exits 67 and 67, there some stubs

Did they planned to extent the service roads easterly?

They've had those stubs before they had the new off and on ramps. I'll tell you something else; when the ROWs for the service roads were originally laid out, westbound Exit 67 went directly into Long Island Avenue, and the westbound service road was to begin again west of Suffolk County Road 21 with bi-directional turn ramps from Long Island Avenue leading to the westbound on-ramp.

I bump the thread ^^;

I checked these 2 overpass and there some sort of stubs on each side of the interchange with Suffolk CR-46

does Suffolk County or NYSDOT plan to extent the service roads more easternly even as far as Riverview?

Alps

Theoretical plan is to have continuous service roads. They're built as they're needed.
