I took this picture nearly six years ago approaching the US 17 Blue Bridge between Florida and Georgia;

And while the first warning sign before the bridge is easy to recognize, I forgot to get a shot of the next one, and for years I was always puzzled about what the message was. Today it dawned on me that one of the obvious solutions might be to look it up on Google Street View. And wouldn't you know it. It's a pre-1971 Slippery When Wet warning sign, with a "400 Feet" supplemental sign underneath.

Reminds me of when "Do Not Enter" signs in Wisconsin had the corners cut so they were octagon-shaped.

They still have those in Madison, typically on the other side of stop signs.

BUSTED!!!

Saw that funny (but mildly infuriating) instance yesterday on I-45 south of Dallas. As for the sign, don't forget about its dyslexic brother to the south...

That means there isn't any truck lane remaining up ahead.

I read it as there are to be no trucks to be seen ahead...And that at least one travel lane picked itself up off the freeway and went home. :bigass:

When flooded turn around don't drown (Clear Creek Road in San Benito County).  This road also has an asbestos warning I believe on the opposite side of the San Benito River:

There are multiple roads around there with this sign.

It's to stop trucks working here from using substandard roads.  Posting roads this way is relatively common in West Virginia and Pennsylvania in resource extraction areas.

And to think I thought it had something to do with the Seneca Nation.

I'm guessing it's talking about Seneca Resources, which has some natural gas wells in the area.

Specifically, Seneca Resources Valentine well # 18H 51379 is near this intersection with a similar sign.  Your sign appears to be warning Seneca natural gas trucks headed to that well to keep going southwest and then use Flower Valley Road instead of using Fritz Road as a shortcut—which, I suppose, might be extra tempting if there's a train blocking the crossing right there.

It is also 73 miles from there to Seneca PA which seemed out of whack for that.  I finally found a sign clear enough to read the fine print which listed the company name...

Do they fear that someone might drive 74 miles without noticing the curves?

Or is it just that to put up a sign for every curve would be too expensive, so they just put up one sign at the beginning, and leave it at that?

If it was AZDOT there would be an advisory speed posted on almost every curve.  Caltrans at least has the decency not to hold your hand as they don't tend to post advisories unless a particular curve becomes a known hazard.
