I wonder if there are any hotels near that intersection...

They really want you to carry water at Red Rock Canyon National Conservation Area:

And they got some good stuff on display at the Eldorado Mine near Nelson, NV.  The ACSC signs in particular would be worth some money:

This is very odd as another ramp to 2nd street exists between Exits 62 ( for US 82) and 63B ( for 8th St).

Here is the photo.  I loaded it via my Android device and that for some reason does not want to play ball, hence the direct link.  I am now on my laptop and that posts the photo.

Why did GDOT insist on that sign for 8th St being the same height as the other? Were they afraid of 8th being lost in the mix or something??

Also, strange that Exit 63A for 2nd St is not on here at all.  Sign bridge has been the same 15+ years.

I thought maybe the area was reconfigured to be two exits for 2nd and 8th, but there have been separate exits back to the 1957 construction of the freeway.

roadman65

Well the A-B might be a byproduct of mile based numbering as the exits are relatively close to each other.  Back when GDOT used sequential exit numbers I'm sure they both had different whole numbers.

However that dont explain why they list the second exit and ignore the first though.

I'm not the expert here, but I was under the impression that's the way Georgia does all multi-panel sign gantries.

That's what I've noticed as well. They like to use a consistent sign height.

I normally like this practice, but when all of the signs are needlessly tall, it looks a little silly. Eg, the sign on the right could have the "TO" and "NORTH" in-line with the shields. The sign would be wider, but the whole assembly could have been shorter instead.

A No Right Turn sign would have been adequate, and more normal.

What's hilarious is that if you follow the imagery of the same batch, it's pretty clear that the GSV driver made the turn the sign prohibits. And is that a cop car in the distance

Well, if it is, then it's a Park City cop, which means he's only interested in nabbing someone for going 0.05 mph over the speed limit where it's perfectly safe to do so.

Park City, Illinois is also a speed trap town. Must be something about that name.

I guess I should've worded it differently lol. Why does GDOT insist on having every sign on said gantry the same height? Even the ones with only a single line on it versus the others? This is something that's always bugged me.

I've installed a number of railroad signal gantries, so I'll take a gander at this one.  The gantry designer needs to think in three dimensions.  As such, the possibility of wind torque on the crossbeam structures needs to be calculated.  My speculation is that the equalization of the sign heights mounted on the gantry reduces the possibility of unequal torque on each sign that would cause a twist on any fasteners in between those signs (which could reduce the number or size of truss members on the gantry).  But from what I can tell, only GDOT has this quirk.

Nope, Caltrans and Nevada DOT do the same thing, which is what leads to a lot of California's signage looking cluttered and awkwardly laid out. Somehow NDOT manages to avoid that in most instances, possibly because they are okay with using taller panels than Caltrans, but there are one or two signs where they've had to add more message to an existing gantry and had to cram it in to match the existing panel heights.

The practice is implicitly disallowed by the MUTCD, which says that message size must be determined first and then panel size is to be derived from the message size. Rules as written, the panel size of other signs on the same gantry should never come into the equation.

Presumably there is an OM JCT assembly when it's Oscar's turn.
