Here are some links that may prove helpful....

CalTrans Quickmap - This is my favorite. Not only does it integrate Google's highway conditions, but also plots all of the highway cameras and changeable message signs. My main gripe is that some of these cameras have no images or old images (some were dated April 4th).

CHP Traffic Incident Page - Second favorite page. I enjoy reading the entries from the CHP for traffic incidents, especially for that bus-FedEx truck incident a few weeks ago.

CalTrans Road Conditions - Oldie but goodie for retrieving the current highway conditions for a particular highway. I am just surprised it is the ancient CGI script.
Welcome to Breezewood, PA... the parking lot between I-70 and I-70.

Thanks.  These are helpful.

I remember about 20 years ago, when I was growing up in L.A., that before a major road trip my father would tell me to call Caltrans' telephone hotline.  You called the number and then you input the highway number on a touch tone phone and Caltrans would list any reported incidents.  Very useful way to find out about road construction in the pre-Internet era.
