"Hornets" comes from the American Revolution, when that location was called a "hornet's nest" of insurrection or some such thing.  So it has history bigger than basketball.

Plus, there were minor-league baseball teams with that name as well.

As for Jordan, I expected this to happen, what with his Air Jordans and vintage Chicago Bulls jerseys selling like hotcakes.
