And so this is why four more ramps need to be built on the spur. If your around HP or Glencoe, to get to the airport your options are Willow, Dundee, LakeCook, Deerfield or 22 to get to the Tollway. FIVE? miles and 15? minutes to get there minimum. If youre a truck southbound on US41 and you dont wanna face going thru Shikaakwa, itd be nice to buck up, and have that option.

Tight fit to get the ramps in on both sides. Maybe with a palatine road upgrade.
Tight fit beats no fit anyday. Wheres Palatine Road? How does a road miles away, west of Milwaukee have anything to with Edens Spur?

You really need to get out of Chicago more.  It's along the north end of Cook County, in what you might call the boonies.

I know where theF Palatine Road is. How does it have anything whatsoever to do with the Edens spur, either widening or adding missing ramps? That was the point SAST.

Sure. Reduced speeds on the ramps won't cause any problems at all, like backups on the mainline. Failure to reduce speeds on the tight ramps won't cause any problems at all either, like crashes blocking the ramp.

Then why did you f'ing ASK where it was? What it has to do with is your suggestion for southbound trucks on US-41 needing to get over to the Tri-State - an upgraded Willow/Palatine Rd.

Youre right! Failure to reduce speed on ANY ramp may cause a crash and a back-up. So, whats your point timewaster? Im not nine, but if it bothers YOU then its doing its job.

OK, lets look at the ramps. On the west, from 294 to EB spur. NO problem.
WB spur to SB294? The toughest nut to crack. Single-lane exit onto a bridge (could launch before N294) with a 30-50 mph bend then double-laned, with a long, relatively smooth left-lane merge. Or dig a TUNNEL? We havent had one of those for a while.
On the east, EB spur with a left exit ramp maybe a 1/4 mile long, then double-laned, before a stop light at Skokie Blvd. OH, THE HUMANITY?   :spin:
SB US41 exits and stops at light on Skokie Blvd, then proceeds across and merges with WB spur.

I dont see anything insurmountable. Maybe $30-50M for the whole project? Depends on how exotic things get and how much widening.

Willow Rd isnt Palatine Rd is it? Thats why I asked. And its well past the point of where the back-up on the Edens starts. Youd have to exit at Tower, then take the frontage to Willow, then go west to the Tollway? Or Palatine Rd? REALLY?   :pan: Im sure the folks on Willow Rd. would just love to host more truck traffic trying to get to the Tri-state around 4 pm. Even after millions spent on an upgrade. That would cause more mayhem than anything on the spur. I thought tollways were supposed to take traffic OFF local roads?  :ded: Only here in bizzaro IL. So, no that really has NOTHING to do with more spur ramps.

There is NO substitute for missing Edens Spur ramps.

East of IL-21/Milwaukee Ave, it's Willow Rd. West of there, it's Palatine Rd.

Thanx for checkin" in Geek?

Just trying to point out the absurdity of what could be the only perfectly good, five-mile east-west tollway in the country (world?) where the only "option" is the EB going south or the WB going north. What goes on at the Taj in Downers Grove? Would this situation be allowed to exist in Dupage? But thats the way we do things around here. Half-assed or backwards or both. And it shows.

I was just trying to be funny.  Please! We do not need another snarkmaster.  We finally got the bipolar troll calmed down as he has not been obnoxious lately and then agentsteel has been involved in his new life, he does not spend it hear anymore.

Anyway, it just brings back memories of ethan as we now have a 9 year old on hear doing what ethanman did (well somewhat anyway) back in the day.  And of course ethanman was a minor too.  I just thought it was interesting that two completely different users from two different eras here on the forum could be almost the same.

It was built a log time ago when they wanted to not have ramp tolls all over the place. Also there was a plan from the past to extend it along lake-cook road area.

Just dont see how Palatine Rd has anything to do with three easy ramps and one difficult one on Edens Spur. Apples/oranges.

It was built a long time ago is no excuse, there would be no ramp tolls, this would certainly upgrade the tollway and take traffic off of Willow, Dundee, Lake Cook, Deerfield and IL22. If this was in Dupage, it would have been done long ago.

There was no mention of Hypotenuse on this thread until reply #what? 37

It doesn't.

It has everything to do with offering an alternative to the Edens Spur for truck traffic on US-41 needing to get over to the Tri-State. You brought it up in reply #11. Joe responded with the Palatine Road idea in reply #13.

If you wish to be taken seriously, I would suggest you stop with the juvenile name calling.

I dont follow the logic? Willow Rd (which would have to exit at Tower, then a frontage road to Willow, REALLY?) (or nowhere close Palatine Rd :hmmm: "in my plan I have ideas")  is supposed to somehow offer an alternative for truck/ all traffic that should be on the Edens Spur? Then headed SOUTH or to Ohare on I-29freakin4. But cant because it was written in stone somewhere that these ramps (initially proposed #7, 24 Oct, since then met with SAST  :ded:  and MB) must never be built. And here I always thought tollways were designed to take traffic OFF local roads!?

There is no substitute for Edens spur ramps.

Why would I wish to be taken seriously, professor? This is bizarro world.

Ask Joe about HIS logic - it was HIS suggestion.

Please define what "SAST" and "MB" refer to for the viewers at home.

It you don't wish to be taken seriously, so be it.

Joe The Dragon

The Palatine Rd road part is to be upgraded to IL-53 and it makes a full interchange on the spur work. Needs a toll bypass or get rid of ramps tolls at Palatine Rd with a main line at the end of I-294.

Checked the locations again today. Theres NO substitute for two easy ramps on the east at Skokie Blvd, an easy one on the west, and one hard one WB spur to S294. $50M probably more. But it needs to be done and should be a priority.

$50M probably more..

I love how you pull these numbers out of thin air. Do you use a dart board with certain number amounts in millions for fictional projects?

And I love how you reply to minutiae in your snarky, ever thought-provoking way.  The price of a fictional project really isnt the issue at this time. Its considering the worthiness to even get it off a fictional list. And give a reason to widen the spur. Instead of cart/horse. :-(

At the CMAP meeting the other day, the ONLY thing being discussed was the uncertainty of funding for ANY projects. For an area as critical as Chicagoland, with a GDP of some $550B, even at a pathetic 1% infrastructure spending ($5.5B), just getting it to 2% would be a major accomplishment.

Please get this back on topic, which is whether or not the Edens Spur should be widened to six lanes. Other stuff should go in a seperate forum

noelbotevera

Well, it's hard to fit in. Here's a little panorama from Google Earth.

https://www.google.com/maps/place/Edens+Expy,+Illinois/@42.1510592,-87.8496676,5572m/data=!3m1!1e3!4m2!3m1!1s0x880fcf5735d73ee1:0x8e87e2697cc009

That's the whole Edens Spur. Between IL 43 and US 41 is an easy part to widen. There's some space there. The IL 43 interchange would have to have some new ramps built.

https://www.google.com/maps/place/Edens+Expy,+Illinois/@42.1449621,-87.8312555,246m/data=!3m1!1e3!4m2!3m1!1s0x880fcf5735d73ee1:0x8e87e2697cc009

So that's the close up of the IL 43 interchange. East of it is easy (you can see the tree barrier), but you do have to destroy said tree barrier for more lanes and shoulders.

West of it is also easy. There's still room for lanes and shoulders.

https://www.google.com/maps/place/Edens+Expy,+Illinois/@42.151931,-87.8610027,3255m/data=!3m1!1e3!4m2!3m1!1s0x880fcf5735d73ee1:0x8e87e2697cc009

As you can see, there's also a tree barrier (the green lines running along I-94).
Pleased to meet you
