And this is surprising because ... ?

I think it's pretty well known that there are few cities in extreme hot/dry areas.

True.

Really?  This whole time, I thought Washington DC was 167° east of Pyongyang and Beijing.

This is not surprising.

DC is south of a couple of northy places:
Pyongyang, capital of North Korea
Beijing == 北京, 北 == North

I found this following fact by perusing the data from @TBKS1's county thread, so just wanted to shout him out.

The county in Texas with the fewest Farm-to-Market and Ranch-to-Market routes is somehow Dallas County, which has only two. For comparison, Bexar County (San Antonio) has 27, Harris County (Houston) has 21, and Tarrant County (Fort Worth) has 17.

It's hard for me to get my mind around how far north the Yucatán peninsula extends.

Between the latitude of Texas' southernmost point and the latitude of Yucatán's northernmost point, it's less than 300 miles.

Tamaulipas borders Texas.  Between the latitude of Tamaulipas' southernmost point and the latitude of Yucatán's northernmost point, it's only about 40 miles.

Now that is most definitely a geographical oddity that defies conventional wisdom.

Yeah you're right. There really aren't any in Dallas. What are the 2? Only one I could maybe find was FM 1389 in extreme SE Dallas County. A little piece of Combine Rd.

This is not surprising.

Honestly, I'm more surprised Beijing is further South than my hometown. In general Europe is further North than thought, and China is further South.

Please note that I may mention "invalid" FM channels, i.e. ending in an even number or down to 87.5. These are valid in Europe.

Probably common knowledge around here, but it's fun when the statewide newspaper dips into this thread's territory on a slow news day.

Quote from: https://thenevadaindependent.com/article/are-there-6-state-capitals-west-of-los-angelesLos Angeles' longitude is -118.18 degrees, meaning six state capitals lie west of the city.

Those state capitals are Carson City, Nevada; Sacramento, California; Olympia, Washington; Salem, Oregon; Juneau, Alaska; and Honolulu, Hawaii.

Carson City is 1.57 degrees west of Los Angeles and Sacramento sits 2.83 degrees west of Los Angeles.

Honolulu, Hawaii, is the farthest, at 40.02 degrees west of Los Angeles.

You go far enough west, and all the state capitals are west of LA.   :bigass:

Does this mean that Eureka lies entirely within Beverly Hills?
