Who is handling that Web site? I applied for an account more than a week ago and have yet to get a reply.
That's strange, I applied after midnight on a week day and got a response within 30 seconds!

Looks like my account hasn't been created.  :eyebrow:

Are there are any serious proposals for any new counties, secessions from existing counties, etc?
There's been a proposal around for several years to reform Milton County, Georgia-which was folded into Fulton County back in the Depression era when Milton County went bankrupt. Milton County was the northern part of Fulton County-the southern part of Fulton County was Campbell County, which was made part of Fulton County around the same time(this is why Fulton County has a somewhat odd shape-it originally was roughly a mirror image of DeKalb County). There has not been any proposal to reform Campbell County that I know of, and the Milton County proposal seems to be stalled for now.

Also, in Minnesota I came across a 2009 article about a proposed merger of two counties, and part of a third, in the St. Cloud area.  The bill to create the new county used "Lake Wobegon County" as a placeholder for the new county name, though I suspect that if the new county is ever created, local voters would just stick with that name, which is already used for at least a local trail.

I haven't followed up on this proposal, and don't know whether it or something similar is still being kicked around.

As I understand it, it died in the legislature.

There was another, relatively recent, proposal that made it to the 2000 general election.  The plan was to split Pine County, MN in two, with the southern half (roughly from Hinckley and MN 48 south) becoming Pioneer County.  The proposal was defeated by county voters in the election.

Some airport layovers are brutal enough that they darn well do count! I only have three of those.

PHX wasn't too bad in Maricopa County, per se...but a three hour wait.

MSP in Hennepin County is a ridiculous walk...how many malls can you shove into one airport? And who laid out the terminals? No connections between them, use your feet and Run Forrest Run!

I suppose landing in CVG and hanging out for 90 minutes doesn't count for much, but I did watch UK defeat Baylor to get into the Final Four (while waiting for my flight to LAX that was supposed to go out of ATL that day), which kind of validates your stay, along with the purchase of a bottled water.
I went to college in St Paul and I have to disagree with you about getting around MSP. I found it dead easy and there are moving walkways within the terminal. The only thing that was not connected to the main terminal the last time i was there was the HHH Terminal off Post Rd. I believe this has since been connected to the main terminal now.

My least favorite airports I have been to are LAX and Memphis. LAX was just way to big to walk between the terminals and Memphis had no moving walkways the last time I was there in '96.

The background is dark on my PC when I view it in Firefox.  It's white when I view it in Internet Exploder.  Try using a different browser.

The "background" in those gifs is transparent and it will show up as whatever the background color in the program you're viewing it with is set to. Note that if you embed it in the forum as an image it shows up as the off-white that's the background here. And if you view someone's embedded in the "recent posts" section while replying, it will show up as green if it's an even number of posts before yours, blue if it's in a quote, etc.

Well, I know in Delaware I have been to three.  Anyone, who travels US 13 will go through all of Delaware's counties.
In my homestate, I finally did all 21 back in 1996.
In Florida, I did almost all of them, except Bradford and Union.

I know my count is missing some from a trip that went from the Space Coast up through the Carolinas back to Ohio, but I wasn't quite old enough to navigate yet.  (I think I was about 5.)  And I do count airport layovers, possibly to a greater extent than others.  I count both Tarrant and Dallas counties in Texas because, while the DFW terminals are in Tarrant County, half the runways are in Dallas County, and I have been multiple times in an airplane using those Dallas County runways.  But the way I see it, being in an airplane on a runway or taxiway in a county is just as good as being in a car on a highway in a county

Well, as the Extra Miler Club states, if your obituary can say you died in that county, that had to mean you were in it.

If you fly into Newark (EWR) you are in two counties: Union and Essex.  Runways 4 and 22 (the two long ones) are in both.  Teminal A is in Union, and the other two are in Essex.  Try not to hail a cab at Terminal A as it is not in Newark proper and therefore city cabs cannot go there.  Only neighboring Elizabeth (city that facility is located in Union County) local taxis you can find that are not as many as neighboring Newark.

That sounds like one runway to me (runways are called differently based on which direction they are used in).  Without checking an airport diagram, I'll suppose you mean runways 4L/22R and 4R/22L.

I've gone out of my way to pick up a county once or twice in my life.  The reason I set up an account is so that I can see where I've been on a map.

That's how I got into it, to display online more or less where I've been.  Then I started taking side trips to fill holes in and pretty up my map, and things went crazy from there.

The Clinched Highway Mapping project, which lets you display your travels in a different way, came after I was firmly entrenched as a county-counter.  Had CHM been available before I signed up with mob-rule.com in 2002, I might never have gotten into county-counting.

I have the same attitude towards non-NY counties that I have to state and US routes outside of NY (and major gaps in my clinched map): I don't really care (usually), but I'll keep track of them.

I started that way, too. I had an RM atlas I highlighted routes I'd driven. Saw the EMC site and thought it'd be interesting to see what counties I had been in. Given the amount of roads I'd driven, felt I'd be way up the list. Turns out, I was barely in a quarter of all counties. so, as you did, I started filling in the map whenever I could to take away the blank spots.

I count airport layovers the same way I count being on a ship in port without going ashore (or sailing the inland waters of a county without a landing); they're colored gray on my map to represent a "sort-of visited" status. I've since visited properly all of my previous airport layover counties, but I still have a lot of inland water visits, particularly for Canada.

Also, with a recent trip to Providence, I have now slept in every state I've visited, which is all but ND. And yes, it's somewhat intentional that that state will be my last; I actually took a trip to HI partly on that premise.
