Or "wait an hour" or "wait a day" or whatever.  The timeframe varies, but it always ends with "Only in ____!"  As if variable weather is unique to that person's locale.

It definitely applies a lot more to the Midwest and Great Lakes than it does to the South, especially the Southwest.

In NETN, I received the storm system that hit my hometown the previous day. It rained between 10 and 3, clearing up soon after, which will give way to a clear and mild Thanksgiving day.

In NETN,

What's that?

Possibly Northeast Tennessee. It's about a day's worth of weather east of Springfield, MO. In addition, he recently posted a Tennessee shield in the US/state mixup thread despite living a decent distance from Tennessee.

Oh, OK.  I thought it must be some weather monitoring app or alert service.

Also being that he's from Springfield, in southwest Missouri, which is frequently referred to as SWMO in that region, he may not be aware that that nomenclature isn't used much outside of there.

WNY (Western New York) is used quite frequently around here, but I wouldn't expect it to be used by people outside the area.
Similarly, I don't use SWMO or NETN myself, but it's understandable for use by the locals.

Some would cause problems. NEAR? NEMA? SEMI? SEAL? SWAB (if including Canada)? SEGA? NEIL?

Also keep in mind that NO means different things in NOLA and NOVA.

Remarkably, the high temperature in Houston today was lower than in the following cities:
Boston
Denver
Rapid City, SD
New York City
Washington DC

Sunny, windy, and cold with highs in the mid 50s with a freeze expected for tonight.

December arrived mere hours ago, and brought with it the first snowfall of the year! There's a fresh coating on the ground as I type this.

Somehow, we escaped with a completely snow-free November, which never happens. We've now been blessed with a snow-free March and a snow-free November in the same year, and even crazier, it was bookended by fresh snow on both February 29th and now December 1st.
I'll bet 2020 is the only time that ever happens!

Snow this early in the year is unusual for Wichita.  The first snowfall is often in December, sometimes even January or February.  Out where I grew up in northwestern Kansas, snow in October was more normal because, even though it was kind of in the rain shadow of the Rockies, some mountain snowstorms strong enough to make it past the front range were also strong enough to make it past the state line as well.  Here in the southeastern part of the state, though, snow in October is unusual.

The highways were slick as I was coming to work, and the some of the clearest spots were actually the worst:  ice instead of snow to drive on.

Well, I just found out that this October snow is even more unusual than I realized.  Wichita broke the record for snowfall on October 26, which had previously been only 0.5 inches.  Any snowfall today automatically breaks the record for October 27, because there has never been any recorded snowfall on this date in Wichita.  We also broke the record for lowest high temp and lowest low temp yesterday.

Wow, that is crazy. We average around 100 inches of snow a year and even here it's rare to get significant snow before Halloween. Last year we had a spell of bitter cold and several snowfalls around Veteran's Day, and even that felt early.

December arrived mere hours ago, and brought with it the first snowfall of the year! There's a fresh coating on the ground as I type this.

So weird to compare Wichita to Rochester.  You up by Canada just got your first snowfall of the season a day and a half ago, yet I down here in Wichita just woke up to our second snowfall of the year.  And neither one of us had any snow during the month in between!

Of course, it was only a few years ago that people we know in southern Coahuila were building snowmenóhad received snowfall twice, in factóbefore we had even seen our first snowflake here in Wichita, so... I guess weather is variable.

That's probably snow due to elevation, in the same way that Flagstaff has snow.

Indeed! It was weird the way the Midwest got snow early this year but we didn't, since those weather patterns usually come this way. But it can't be understated how unusual it was for us to have a snow-free November. Last year, for example, we had 17.8 inches in November. The last time we had less than an inch in November was 2012, and the last time we had none at all appears to have been 1952, although it remains to be seen whether this year will be recorded as "0.0" or "T".

As far as my being "up near Canada", that's certainly true in the literal sense, but our latitude lines up between Sioux Falls, SD and Sioux City, IA; less than halfway from Wichita to the ND/MB border! Our snowfall is mostly thanks to the Great Lakes, not proximity to the Great White North. :)
