We've had a warm stretch of weather here, but it has cooled off from 60° to the 30s. It is expected to stay that way throughout the weekend.

After seeing 90s all over South Texas the last few days, another cold front is knocking us back down to Winter Wonderland conditions with temperatures several degrees below normal (some location as much as ten degrees below normal):

                                  ACTUAL                            AVERAGE
BROWNSVILLE:        71 high; 51 low                77 high; 58 low
CORPUS CHRISTI:    69 high; 48 low                74 high; 57 low
LAREDO:                  71 high; 46 low                78 high; 54 low
MCALLEN:                72 high; 49 low                79 high; 58 low

And then another gradual warm-up will moderate us back to normal by mid-week and then back up to spring-like temperatures by next weekend.

I'll be nice. GRRRRRR.

It was 55 today in North Texas but the hawk was out and it was cold. Fortunately, going to be back in the 70s all of next week.

We probably won't be seeing a very high chance of snow this week:

                                  ACTUAL                            AVERAGE
BROWNSVILLE:        91 high; 71 low                79 high; 60 low
CORPUS CHRISTI:    90 high; 72 low                76 high; 59 low
LAREDO:                  96 high; 71 low                81 high; 56 low
MCALLEN:                95 high; 73 low                82 high; 60 low

With dew points hovering in the upper 60s to low 70s, the heat index will range from 95 to 100 degrees.

Did anyone see today's lunar eclipse? I was able to see the partial eclipse before 6am EST, but once totality started, the moon was too dim to see through the clouds. It's a bummer since the sky was clear all of yesterday but it's not too surprising for this time of year.

hotdogPi

I saw it partial. It was clear, but moonset was a bit too early given that I wasn't able to look exactly on the horizon from where I was.

I missed the eclipse this morning, but I did notice bright moonlight last night due to the unusually clear skies and full moon.

A large storm system moved through yesterday afternoon and evening resulting in several hours of heavy rain with temps hovering just above freezing. All of the weather forecasts insisted that temperatures would rise through the mid-30's overnight, but instead, the cold air remained remarkably stubborn. Temperatures hovered around freezing all night, and I woke up this morning to 31°F and a mystical combination of fog and ice. The ice is a clear glaze - not mixed with any snow or sleet - that produced mini-icicles on all the tree branches. Temps were supposed to be well into the 40's by midday today, but it's still 35°F with fog and mist as I type.

kphoger

Wet weather has brought warmer temps back.  Heading out of the gym at 8pm yesterday, it was warmer than earlier that day.  There were thunderstorms in the area last night, and some are still possible.  This morning, temps were in the mid-50s, and I left for work without a jacket for the first time in a long time.  It really feels like Spring today, which just reminded me that my morning commute will be plunged back into darkness again next week because of you-know-what.  The forecast high today is 71°F, but winds are supposed to shift again tonight, and the forecast low is back down to 35°F.  The month of March is often a see-saw like this.

Wednesday was 9C and sunny in Arthur, ON, and that felt heavenly. But now I'm getting spoiled in Bequia where it's 27C (80F) and mostly sunny, with the same weather for the next few days.

Tulsa narrowly escaped two tornadoes yesterday, one going to the north and one going to the south. The sirens were going off all evening. Today was pretty nice though, but tornado potential looms again for Tuesday.

Official high temperature at South Lake Tahoe airport yesterday was 62°F, the highest since November 12.

There has never been a high temperature of 70°F or higher between November 18 and March 27.  Forecasts are showing highs in the upper 60s for the upcoming weekend and early next week so that March 27 date could be challenged.

Bobby5280

Here in Lawton the forecast is record high temperatures at/near 90°F. The current temperature record is 84°F. It's going to be a windy day and wildfire danger is pretty high.

According to the NWS, Oklahoma has seen 90s in February even as far north as the University of OK.

DFW's LOWEST record high for March is 86º on March 15 (1943). The month's record high is 100º on March 9 (1911).

However, from March 5-7, 1989, DFW got hit with a late-season Arctic Blast™ and temps didn't get above freezing for 2 1/2 days. It hit us a day earlier and it was a shock to the system. I also remember a March cold snap in 1994 that got down to the low teens and forced my baseball team to pull out of a tournament, but that's not reflected in the DFW climatological record.

The latest freeze on record for DFW is April 13 (1957) and the latest snow is a trace on April 14 (1928). The latest measurable snow is 0.1 inches on March 30 (1926).

At bedtime last night, it was 60°F.  First thing this morning, it was still 60°F.  We left the windows wide open all night for the first time in quite a while.  It's supposed to get up into the lower 80s today, and maybe some fleeting storms later on.

The winds are still variable and strong-ish, bringing warmer and then cooler weather back and forth.  Wednesday night is supposed to get back down to the freezing point, and right now they're saying 20°F for Sunday night.

I was talking about the record high for March 9 in Lawton. The previous record was indeed 84°F. The official high yesterday (at the regional airport) was 87°F. That's a new record high for that date in Lawton.

Yes, we're moderate risk now, and any tornadoes are likely to be EF2+ with some possibly being EF3. Risk of hail > 2" is also in the moderate category. It's 45 degrees here at my house, and at my wife's work a mere 6 miles south of here it's 62 degrees.
